Urban and Suburban Carbon Farming
to Reverse Global Warming
Sunday, May 3, 2015
9 am - 5 pm
Harvard Science Center
1 Oxford Street
Cambridge, Massachusetts

Come spend the day with fellow climate activists, gardeners, scientists, educators, homeowners, and community organizers. Learn how soil restoration is key to reversing climate change and about the contributions urban and suburban dwellers can make!
Atmospheric carbon dioxide is at dangerous levels. If we work with nature, photosynthesis (plants) can remove excess CO2 from the air and store it safely in the form of soil carbon for centuries or millennia. More carbon in the soil means rich biodiversity, healthy plants, abundant food, thriving local economies ... and a cooler planet.

Biodiversity for a Livable Climate is dedicated to spreading the word about how we can all contribute at a local level to solving this global crisis.
In cities and suburbs, lawns and driveways are being transformed into lush gardens and islands of wilderness. Urban trees provide shade and contribute cooling moisture to the air. Herds of goats are replacing mowers, and well-managed livestock are healing landscapes throughout the world. Nature-based inputs -- including rain water, compost, biochar, and rock dust -- are restoring ecological nutrient cycles and improving water quality. At the same time, the reduction in the use of synthetic fertilizer allows the flourishing of marine life, including seagrass beds that bio-sequester prodigious quantities of carbon. Agriculture, whether backyard or regional, is quickly becoming our greatest ally in building climate resiliency and reversing global warming.
Hear from visionary academic, government, and community leaders who recognize that ecological restoration is climate mitigation. Share the latest information, gain practical know-how, and network with others to see what you can do to create a hopeful climate future.
Conference program and registration at bio4climate.org/cambridge.
Conference fee is $50, sliding scale. Volunteer opportunities are available.
We hope to see you there!
