Hi All,

At 9:30 on Saturday December 6th in Cary Memorial Library, Sustainable Middlesex will advance to a new level which could have national implications.

Sustainable Middlesex has been a conduit for local grassroots organizations to learn from each other about tested ideas and programs that promote awareness of climate change and sustainable solutions. We have had insightful and inspiring speakers enhancing our knowledge of initiatives and solutions to the challenges brought about by increasing greenhouse gases.

Over the last year we have gained an appreciation and focus on the need to put a price on carbon (carbon tax) as perhaps the best single initiative to address global climate disruption.
In part as a result of a Sustainable Middlesex forum with state representatives and legislators, State Senator Mike Barrett and Representative Tom Conroy drafted legislation to put a price on carbon.

Now it is time for us to collaborate with other groups that share this perspective and develop the strategy and organization to see that it is passed. We are fortunate to have Senator Barrett as a passionate, intelligent and competent leader to guide us in this effort. Join us in discussing and developing the plan and process to see that it gets done in Massachusetts.

When it is passed in Massachusetts, it will be a catalyst for the country and a model for the rest of the world.

Agenda for Saturday’s meeting
1.  Update from Mike Barrett on status of the legislation – implication of Baker’s win
2.   Discuss Strategy to pass a price on carbon legislation
      3.   Discuss organization and implementation of strategy
      4.   Mark Sandeen will present how a few citizens were able to get Lexington to install solar panels onall suitable town buildings
      5.   Sharing information on individual town initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability.

The meeting which is in collaboration with Climate XChange and Citizens Climate Lobby will be held in the downstairs large meeting room at Cary Library. Doors will be open at 9:15 for networking and coffee. The agenda will start promptly at 9:30, concluding at 11a.m.

Please forward to me interesting initiatives in which your group or town is involved for sharing and distribution to others.

Also please forward this email to others who may be interested in the topics.

Thanks,
Charlie
