Weston has been fortunate to have a number of committed environmental groups over the years. Their accomplishments are many, and Weston residents have undoubtedly benefited from those who have spent countless hours beautifying, protecting, and planning for our Town.
Residents have expressed for some time the need to represent and unify these efforts at the town government level, in the form of a sustainability task force or town-wide committee. Such a group ideally would be comprised of representatives from town government/operations, conservation-related committees, and citizens with expertise and interest in town-wide issues involving energy, open space, waste and sustainability-related topics. To this end, a number of residents have recently created the Sustainable Weston working group, dedicated to exploring town-wide governance of sustainability in line with those of surrounding towns. The group has compiled sustainability-related data and best practices in neighboring towns upon the request of the town Selectmen, and is in the planning stages of exploring a way forward for Weston to take care of sustainability in a systemic way.
That is where you come in!
You are invited to attend the April 3rd meeting of the Board of Selectmen (Town Hall, 7pm) to hear the group’s initial presentation. The group is hoping for a large showing of residents who are interested in sustainability issues. In addition, you are encouraged to join the Sustainable Weston Facebook page: Friends of Sustainable Weston as a way of keeping in touch. Sustainable Weston is open to all!
Please contact Liz Steel at

The Sustainable Weston Working Group
