16th Annual Adella Ave Turkey Trot

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Please join us again on Thanksgiving morning for our annual Adella
Avenue Turkey Trot! (https://www.facebook.com/share/1EhBoKH93o/)

This is a super casual and (IMHO) immensely fun event, allowing us to
come together to start our holiday festivities. Arrive between
8:00-8:30am to 'check in' and grab a race bib (totally not required, but
we have 'em if you want to be all official). More importantly this will
give you a few minutes to share good cheer with neighbors. We will have
a pot luck of drinks and snacks (coffee, cocoa, mimosas, beer,
doughnuts, muffins, etc). Bring something to contribute if you like; or
please also feel free to just come and share in what is on hand. There
is always plenty! In addition to the snacks and 'the Trot', Santa will
be on hand with candy canes for the younger West Newtonites in
attendance. (He shows up at the end of the Kids' Dash.) Weather
permitting, we'll also have a balloon arch, from which kids can take a
balloon home after the event.

The Trot: We'll have a couple of heats of 'Kids Dash' races just down
the length of Adella. Targeting start time of 8:45am for the first of
those races. The Kids' Dash heats will be led by a Turkey mascot (i.e. a
costumed neighbor). Any child who catches the Turkey will win... well,
nothing, but ALL kids who run will receive a ribbon or medal. The adult
race will start at 9:00am (🤞). The course is a very manageable distance
of about two and one-half miles. We will mark all turns and longer
straightaways with yellow signs and scarecrows. Feel free to run fast,
or slow, to walk, or to just stay at the race start/finish line and
cheer on runners as they finish. Trophies for first male and female in
both adult and kid categories, as well as a few other random awards 😎.

The Start/Finish line is at 72 Adella Ave. Hope to see many of you
there! Note: we would love to keep the street relatively free of parked
cars to give more space for the Kids Dash races, so if you could avoid
parking between 72 Adella and 34 Adella, we would greatly appreciate it.
