Goodafter noon, I was wondering if a person that is in school, can get the perpetual license with a student discount? I have been told if I ask, certain places can do that. Is there a certain amount that can be taken off perpetual license for a student? I mean it obviously wont come with updates, and 2,000 is a bit extreeme when the monthly cost is so little but I highly dislike being billed directly monthly. I never know what tomorrow brings, so again I was wondering if there is anyway I could get a discount on the perpetual license
However, every student discounted version of software I purchased in my life could not be upgraded. If this is the case with TB it means it will eventually be useless. You will eventually have to fork out the price of a full version license or a subscription and you cannot sell the student license if TB allows the sale of any of their licenses. It is simply an outlay of money that cannot be used as a springboard (financially) to a future version. A student discount would not come at a price making that a sound investment but that is subjective. Maybe you have an inheritance coming to you soon and need something to tie you over.?
Internet access aside, it can be viewed as a bargain and miracle that you have access to Premium in the form of a subscription without the large outlay of money even though you do not own the license. (I am speaking as someone who has owned and upgraded perpetual licenses of Harmony since TB Animate Pro was discontinued).
Each year, we select creators to participate in the Toon Boom Showreels. The showreels are intended to recognize animation and storyboard artists who make exceptional use of our software, whether they are industry professionals, freelancers, students, or hobbyists. We will consider any candidate who advances the craft of animation in their work using Toon Boom Harmony or Storyboard Pro. Toon Boom pulls together two distinct showreels each year, one that highlights work from studios and professionals and one that puts forward the works from students and schools.
Our Showreels show off cool projects, TV series, feature films and animated shorts done in our software from the past year. The Toon Boom Showreels are used at events, live streams and are also posted on our YouTube channel. Check out our Showreels from last year:
The equipment-recommendation list was constructed with individual DW courses and assignments in mind. Purchasing these items allows students to have their own gear for educational and personal use, especially since the number of equipment resources DW can loan out to students is limited. Click here to see a list of available student equipment. Students are welcome to use equipment they already own or purchase higher-spec items beyond what is listed. It's important to note, the equipment below is not required but only recommended for the benefit of the students' educational experience in this degree program.
*Refunds are not available for Toon Boom licenses
*Licenses will be distributed approximately two weeks after you submit your payment for the class materials fee. If your student would like to begin using the software now, I recommend getting the 21 day free trial here on this webpage. It will work until they receive their student license.

Toon Boom Animation is a software program that allows students to draw, animate or add special effects to create content of their choice. In this course students will explore storyboarding, scripting, camera controls, animatic creation capabilities and sound. Does the student like the idea of creating animated stories but insecure about their drawing skills? No problem! The Toon Boom program has hundreds of characters, images and backgrounds to select from and use while learning the same animation techniques as their peers. By the end of this course students will have been guided through the core concepts of animating in Storyboard Pro. They will also have a short project they created to show for it!
Otis students, staff, and faculty are eligible to access free and trial versions of popular software titles from the following companies. Please note software requests for instruction are coordinated through the department chairs; please contact them for more information.
If you're graduating ( or non-continuing ), access ends two weeks after the semester you are enrolled in ends. Be sure to export and save your projects to your own personal locations if they are stored in the Adobe Cloud. =en
If you are and remain registered for classes in the Fall - your access will continue through the Fall semester. The license will extend until the end of Summer, after which your academic license is automatically renewed.
Autodesk is not provided by the College for home use, but students and educators can get free one-year educational access to Autodesk products and services, renewable as long as you remain eligible.
PREREQUISITE: Knowledge of animation principles and prior experience with animation is highly recommended for this course. Please note that this is a software course and we will not be teaching basic animation principles.
This much-anticipated course will take students all the way from Beginner through Advanced levels of Toon Boom Harmony for 2D Animation production. In this comprehensive eight-week class, students will:
Melissa Graziano is a storyboard artist and animator who has worked at Warner Bros, Bento Box, Starburns Industries, Shadow Machine, Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, Powerhouse Animation, and 6 Point Harness/6 Point 2. Melissa has also worked as a Toon Boom Harmony consultant and freelance rigger and animator on many independent projects. Since 2014, she has taught Harmony and Storyboard Pro at LAAFA, Studio Arts, and Microdesk, and at the college level at Loyola Marymount University, USC, and UCLA.
Each student will pick from 3 different background line art. They will Digitally Paint a background using Photoshop. This artwork will have a foreground, midground and background. This is so we can create a multiplane/parallax camera move within Toon Boom in day 2 of the workshop.
Each student will create a unique scene using a combination of the digitally painted background from the previous days workshop and premade animation and FX elements.
The students will import the previous days work from photoshop into ToonBoom Harmony. We will create a camera move with parallax. We will add premade hand drawn animation as well as special FX animation. We add blurs, glows, flash frames as needed.
All art majors are recommended to meet with a faculty advisor each semester. Lower division art majors (29-59 units) will have a mandatory hold placed on their class registration each semester, requiring an appointment with the department academic advisor for clearance.
