Relics

Bill put up a post on his FB page thanking those that donated, but in particular he thanked the Relics. He wrote, “I thank the Western Mass Relics from the bottom of my heart.” He proceeded to describe the organization and he explained how others could join the league, where it is and who to contact. Ted expect a lot of requests to register. Bill is 78. I checked his FB page. He has quite a few old and older friends. If there is a rush to join we may have to create a third division, maybe “Really Gold” or “The Goldest” might work. He went on to write, “Thank you Relics for your generosity! Once A Brother Always A Brother.”

In a statement to all his friends from around the country he described what impact these donations would have. “I am so grateful, thankful to everyone. This will now allow the payment of many medical bills that have been difficult to make payment as the medical expenses are piling up very fast. I want to thank everyone that has donated.”

I now have known Bill for 2 years. He worked hard all his life. Saved a few bucks. Went on vacation to Aruba year after year. He said he liked the feel of the sand. He is a proud man. I think any of us facing cancer and costs might hesitate to extend a hand seeking someone to grab it. Some may say to themselves - man I am not going to create a gofundme page under any circumstance.

Well I am sure Bill hesitated. He probably hesitated again and again. But his decision to reach out and seek financial assistance reflects that he is a proud, strong man that is ready to fight the fight.

It is probably too late for me to want to emulate a particular person at this stage of the game (maybe Aaron Judge). I hope I can emulate what Bill is all about. It brings a smile to my face that he is a friend, a brother and a fellow Relic

Thanks to all for your donations. For those that remember Soupy Sales and the time he held up a dollar and told the kids to go in their folks pockets and mail the money to him - I say do want Soupy watchers did and send that money in. This time it’s for a good cause.
