Good Afternoon ........

At 11:41 A.M. this date Officers from the Springfield Police
Department were dispatched to the canal located at 34 Front St. in the
Indian Orchard Section of Springfield. A worker near the Canal was
cleaning the waters edge when he discovered a body floating in the
water. The witness called the police right away. The Homicide Unit
under the direction of Captain Robert McFarlin responded to the scene
along with the Springfield Fire Department who assisted in the removal
of the body. The deceased is a male subject, unknown age. The body was
badly decomposed. Crime Scene Officers were not able to get
fingerprints from the body. There was no identification on the
subject. It appears at this time that there was no signs of trauma.
The body is scheduled for an autopsy to determine cause of death.
Investigators are looking into missing person reports filed in the
last several weeks. I will keep you posted as the investigation
progresses.
