Acquiring Records from Eastern Europe
Kahlile Mehr

Sunday November 4, 2012      1:30 pm

Congregation Beth El-Atereth Israel
561 Ward Street       Newton Centre, MA

Kahlile Mehr will review the best sources for Jewish genealogical research in Eastern Europe and options for acquiring documents from those sources. Learn how to identify and use archival collections, understand the arrangement of records in an archive, and use the Internet to do research.

Kahlile B. Mehr is Manager of Slavic Collection Management and Cataloging at the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Mehr has over thirty years experience at the FHL, where he has developed the FHL collections for eastern Europe, Spain, Portugal, and the Pacific and has visited archives in most of the countries of Eastern Europe. He has published many articles on family history topics and is a regular contributor to Avotaynu, reporting on the FHL's acquisitions of Jewish records from Eastern Europe.
