Dear supporter of the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra:
This mailer is shining a spotlight on the first event of the
2026 Summer Baroque Season, namely Love in the Baroque!
|
|
Members of the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra present a programme of instrumental chamber music from the baroque period, centred around leading composers, the people who inspired them, and their passions outside the world of music. The programme includes music by Bach, Handel, Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre and Thomas Arne, as well as pieces from the Anna Magdalena Bach manuscript books. Musicians of the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra, Ingo Müller (baroque oboe), Annien Shaw (baroque violin), Rosamund Roth (viola da gamba) and Erik Dippenaar (harpsichord/Director) play on period instruments, authentically conveying the sound-world of the baroque period. Join us for a programme of exciting and expressive repertoire, that celebrates the love of people, places and the arts in all its forms, from a historical perspective!
Date and time: Saturday, 7 February 2026, 18:00-19:30
Venue: Parshuis (Historic Wine Cellar), La Motte, Franschhoek
Tickets: R350
Please note: The concert starts at 18:00, but there will be wine and light refreshments available in the gardens from 17:00.

One of the items on the programme for Love in the Baroque is the Sonata in G major, BWV 1021, for which the earliest surviving manuscript is in the hand of Anna Magdalena Bach. This recording, by Erik Dippenaar (spinet) and Refiloe Olifant (baroque violin), was made in the home of Cape Town-based harpsichord and organ builder William Selway Robson.
