On Monday, 16 February, the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra (CTBO) will present its first orchestral concert of 2026, focusing on 18th-century orchestral works and arias.
Baroque Pleasures will feature regular CTBO collaborator Lynelle Kenned (soprano) as vocal soloist alongside some of the CTBO´s principal players as instrumental soloists: Annien Shaw and Ralitza Macheva (baroque violins) and Rosamund Roth (baroque cello) will feature in a concerto grosso by Corelli, and Bridget Rennie Salonen (baroque flute) will play the iconic obligato flute part, imitating birdsong, of Handel’s aria ‘Sweet bird’ from L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato. Dale de Windt (chamber organ) and Erik Dippenaar (harpsichord) will present a ‘Handel concerto ping-pong’, with several movements from Handel’s organ concerti played alternatively on harpsichord and chamber organ. The CTBO's Artistic Director Erik Dippenaar will direct this concert from the harpsichord.
