Dear supporter of the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra:

This mailer is shining a spotlight on the third event of the
2026 Summer Baroque Season, namely Baroque Pleasures!

On Monday, 16 February, the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra (CTBO) will present its first orchestral concert of 2026, focusing on 18th-century orchestral works and arias.

Baroque Pleasures will feature regular CTBO collaborator Lynelle Kenned (soprano) as vocal soloist alongside some of the CTBO´s principal players as instrumental soloists: Annien Shaw and Ralitza Macheva (baroque violins) and Rosamund Roth (baroque cello) will feature in a concerto grosso by Corelli, and Bridget Rennie Salonen (baroque flute) will play the iconic obligato flute part, imitating birdsong, of Handel’s aria ‘Sweet bird’ from L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato. Dale de Windt (chamber organ) and Erik Dippenaar (harpsichord) will present a ‘Handel concerto ping-pong’, with several movements from Handel’s organ concerti played alternatively on harpsichord and chamber organ. The CTBO's Artistic Director Erik Dippenaar will direct this concert from the harpsichord.

This recording of Ritorna o caro, from Handel's opera Rodelinda, features Lynelle Kenned (soprano) performing with the CTBO. In Baroque Pleasures, on 16 February 2026, Lynelle will sing Handel’s Sweet bird (which she last sang in Montreal during the 2024 Festival Montréal Baroque when members of the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra toured to Canada), as well as Gelido Ogni Vena from Vivaldi’s Farnace, which resembles the 'Winter’ concerto from the ‘Four Seasons’.

The 2026 Summer Baroque Season is generously supported by the Rupert Musiekstigting.
