Subject: It's Lit on Broadway
Hi Neighbor,
On Monday, please join me for It's Lit to flip the switch on a 35-foot holiday tree on Broadway and Century. It's Lit will start at 4 PM and as soon as the sun sets, we will light up Broadway. You won't want to miss this this amazing event, but if you can't make it, the Broadway holiday tree will stay lit through the holiday season!
Thank you,
Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson
Flood Insurance Changes
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released a new Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for the Ballona Creek Watershed area that will change insurance requirements for nearly 6,000 property owners across Los Angeles County, especially in South LA.
Currently, over 6,750 homes in LA County are required to purchase additional flood insurance to protect themselves in the event of catastrophic flooding. The updated study released at the end of September will decrease that number slightly overall but will dramatically impact Council District 8. In CD 8, the affected properties went from 2570 down to 625.
The Flood Insurance Rate Map will be open to appeals until December 7, 2017, if you believe there is a scientific or technical mistake. Additionally, property owners can request a Letter of Map Change if they believe that their property should not be included by logging on to https://www.fema.gov/forms. If you have any questions you can contact FEMA directly at 1-877-FEMA-MAP.
