ABOUT LANNAYA WEST AFRICAN DRUM AND DANCE ENSEMBLE:

Lannaya West African Drum and Dance Ensemble is an extended family of talented dancers and drummers, led by Master Drummers Alseny Sylla and Abu Sylla.  We perform intricate and intoxicating dances, songs, and rhythms from Guinea and the Ivory Coast, West Africa, with a fierce and beautiful energy. Our pieces celebrate the life and culture of West Africa.  We have performed at The Paramount Theater, One World Theater, and for many outdoor festivals, including Austin City Limits, Pecan Street and the Violet Crown Festival.

In the Su Su language of Guinea, West Africa, Lannaya means "confidence.” It’s what the Ensemble seeks to express in our work and to instill in our audiences. Through our performances, Lannaya strives to create an atmosphere of communal connection and support, encouraging and inspiring audiences and participants to join in the celebration!
