Join us for a fantastic weekend of dance and drum classes with Joti Singh
and Bongo Sidibe from San Francisco. Come learn Bhangra, a traditional
Punjabi dance often featured in Bollywood films. (Watch Joti's video
here).
Joti and Bongo will also teach Guinea-style West African dance and drum
classes. Just wear clothes that allow to you move, and get ready to sweat!
Classes are open to dancers and drummers of all levels. Don't miss out!

There is no advanced registration, but you can pay by cash or check at
the workshop. Please note: we cannot accept credit cards. Instructors Joti
Singh is the founder and artistic director of Duniya Dance and Drum
Company
in San Francisco, where she teaches and performs Bhangra and West African
dance. She was recently an artist-in-residence at CounterPULSE in San
Francisco. She has also participated in the Alliance for California
Traditional Arts' Apprenticeship Program with Alseny Soumah and
received the
organization's Traditional Artist Development grant. She has traveled to
Guinea several times to study with Moustapha Bangoura and other members of
Les Ballets Africains. Alpha Oumar "Bongo" Sidibe is a traditional drummer
from Conakry, Guinea. Bongo studied with master drummer Mamady Keita
at his
school, Tam Tam Mandigue, and has participated in many of his workshops in
Conakry and Balandougou. Before leaving Guinea, Bongo was co-director of
Balandougou Kan, a group of traditional percussionists and dancers. Since
arriving in the U.S., Bongo has performed with Rhythm Village and Duniya
Dance and Drum Company. ] .
