Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes is excited to announce the 2021 Summer Youth Jobs Connection, a program funded by the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development to provide paid summer employment and work readiness training for teens and young adults. The Summer Youth Jobs Connection is offered through the Mercer County One-Stop Career Center for teens and young adults, ages 16 to 24, with a focus on those who are economically disadvantaged and/or have barriers to employment. They will work and participate in work readiness training each week, and also can receive transportation assistance. Applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants with documented barriers will be given priority. Completion of this application does not constitute an offer of employment. Applicants will not be placed in a work experience until ALL pre-employment steps are complete. Program Requirements: - All applicants must be residents of Mercer County, New Jersey.
- All applicants must be between 16 and 24 years old. Applicants must turn 16 by 7/1/21 and not turn 25 prior to 7/1/21.
- All applicants must have access to a reliable internet/WiFi connection and a working cell phone, computer or tablet to
participate in required online program components. - Completed applications are due no later than Friday, June 4, 2021.
- FAILURE TO SUBMIT ALL OF THE REQUIRED PAPERWORK MAY DISQUALIFY YOU FROM PARTICIPATION.
A MANDATORY Paid Orientation will be held via Zoom on Monday June 28-Thursday, July 1 from 10 am – 12 noon. Work will begin Tuesday, July 6 and end on Friday, August 27, 2021. - The work experience is 8 weeks (July 6 – August 27, 2021).
- Participants will be matched according to their interests, your job description, age, and location.
- All wages are paid by the Mercer County One-Stop through a grant from the Department of Labor. Workers' Compensation will be covered by the County of Mercer.
- Participants will be paid $12.00 for a 25 hour week: 22.5 hours of work experience (Monday-Friday) and 2.5 hours of virtual/online professional development workshops.
- Youth will prepare for their work experience by attending virtual orientations via Zoom designed to prepare them to enter employment and have the support of a counselor/mentor.
If you are selected to participate in the Mercer County 2021 Summer Youth Jobs Connection, you will be scheduled for an appointment at the Mercer County One-Stop Career Center in June.
