GREG BRAKEFIELD OF COMPORIUM GROUP CAPTURES 2011 SCTE INTERNATIONAL CABLE GAMES TITLE

 

NOV. 17, 2011 (Atlanta, GA)-Representing SCTE Region 10 and the SCTE Piedmont Chapter, Greg Brakefield of Comporium Group and Rock Hill, S.C., outpaced a field of 28 competitors and captured the 21st Annual SCTE International Cable-Tec Games overall title Wednesday evening in Atlanta.

 

The International Games-sponsored by CommScope, Corning Gilbert, PPC, Times Fiber Amphenol, and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE)-comprised competitors from across the United States and Canada who had qualified to compete after winning their local competitions.

 

SCTE conducts the popular International Games-where technical professionals demonstrate precise workmanship, refined skills, and proper technique-each year as part of SCTE Cable-Tec Expo(r), SCTE's flagship event. Expo 2011 began Tuesday and concludes today at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

 

Luis Fasani of Time Warner, the SCTE Heart of America Chapter, and Edwardsville, Kan., took second-place overall. He was representing SCTE Region 5. Fasani gained the added distinction Wednesday evening of being named the inaugural recipient of the Spirit of the Games Award, sponsored by CommScope. Presented in memory of David Jones, this award recognizes an individual who best exhibits sportsmanship and embraces the learning environment at the Games.

 

The 2010 first-place overall winner, Ron Poole of Comcast, the SCTE Golden Gate Chapter, and Santa Cruz, Calif., took third-place overall this year. His chapter is located in SCTE Region 1.

The hosts of the evening's seven contests were: AFL Telecommunications, Belden, CommScope, Corning Cable Systems, Corning Gilbert, EXFO, Greenlee Communications, JDSU, Jones/NCTI, PPC, Radiodetection, Times Fiber Amphenol, and Trilithic.
