West High Alliance Meeting

September 14, 2011

6:30-9:15 pm

There was general discussion about how the Physics classes were going at West, with concerns expressed about whether students will be prepared to fulfill the AP/IB requirements in the 2011-2012 school year. The following three motions were made.

Motion 1: That parents as a group meet with Principal Jacobs to discuss the teaching of IB/AP Physics at West, with a list of questions to be sent to Principal Jacobs in advance of this meeting and with the expectation that Principal Jacobs would provide a written response to these questions.

The motion was passed.

Motion 2: That parents as a group meet with Principal Jacobs and Superintendent Withers to discuss the teaching of Physics at West, with a list of questions to be sent to the Principal and the Superintendent in advance of this meeting and with the expectation that Principal Jacobs would provide a written response to these questions.

The motion failed.

Motion 3: That WHA will send a letter to the Salt Lake Board of Education thanking them for their consideration of the SCC request, reporting on any concerns about IB/AP Physics at West, and urging the Board to expedite the completion of the grievance procedure.
