News from Board via Asay

Hi all,

Asay's SCC agenda for Sept 12 meeing includes the following (last
paragraph on second page):

"Request from the West High Alliance: I was notified by the school
board president that they were sending a response to both me and the
principal. I have not yet received that response. The request from WHA
was not on the board agenda for 6 Sept. Once I receive a response I
will meet with Parley and we will determine how best to distribute the
information."

I am troubled by the following statement :

". Once I receive a response I
will meet with Parley and we will determine how best to distribute the
information."

Isn't the response addressed to the entire SCC? Why is the chair and one member of SCC making a decision?
I am especially troubled since learning about the recent developments concerning Mr. Jacobs and Mr. McGuire.
I personally think that Mr. Jacobs should excuse himself from making any decisions in this case, the same way he excused himself from voting at the SCC meeting.
Am I again missing something?

I don't see any decision but how to distribute I would think it will be an official statement to the SCC in response to the request. I agree my first response was same, but I believe Steve is just acting in his role as Chair. Why he confers with Dr. Jacobs I don't know but it won't have any impact on message I don't think.

I recommend that you request to receive a copy of this report immediately upon its release, in your capacity as SCC members AND as the person(s) delegated by the SCC to communicate with the BOE.  If you can’t get a copy from Steve, then request one from the BOE directly.

 

Knowing what the BOE has decided will have an enormous impact on what we decide to do next.

Hi All:

 

We have learned last Wednesday, Sept 7, that there is a reply on the way from SLCSB.

I find it very difficult to believe that this response has not yet reached SCC. Why aren't we hearing about it?

It makes me wonder if the letter our students got from principal Jacobs has anything to do with it...

BTW - we have received the copy of the letter in the mail yesterday.

Please clarify: What letter: The Sep 9 Physics letter from Principal Jacobs? Or a letter from the BOE?

The letter from Principal Jacobs, the same that students have received at school on Friday.

I attach the letter from the Principal. LC (the moderator) sent it to whipsnet yesterday (and opted not to post comments on the topic on whipsnet).

It looks like that the SLCSD Board has talked to Mr. Jacobs about the email content that we wrote to them.
Since most of our emails concerned about how our kids learn the physics without Mr. McGuire, Mr. Jacobs
is trying to assure all of the parents and students that physics classes at West High are progressing quite
favorably under Mr. Arce-Larretta’s direction.
 
I think that Guy Nickerson has a good idea. We each should make an appointment with Mr.Jacobs. I am
wondering who is going to teach the students when Mr. Arce-Larretta is going to be in the training and
conference next month.

I don't know that the BOE spoke with Mr. Jacobs We know that whipsnett is monitored by district and WH administration and I would think WHA google group is as well. david
