Dear Friends of Turtle Island, "I believe art is what revolutionizes us and speaks to the future generations to tell a story about what we are fighting for, protecting, & what we’re praying for.” — Phoenix Amaterasu I’m a settler descendant taking an online course about building solidarity with Indigenous communities and was told last week to get rid of illusions of hierarchy and celebrate kinship. How do we do that? How do we stop 500 years of colonization and reset the world? A talented Indigenous youth named Phoenix is showing me a way. A Two Spirit raised in Chicago, Phoenix has gifted us with a poem about coming into relationship with the buffalo. While its message is deeply personal, it’s also universal, offering a path for walking in solidarity with all beings. We hope you enjoy it and feel its message. |
