I find the latter configuration much more natural/ergonomical. Especially since the concept of HOTAS (Hands On Throttle-And-Stick) implies that the pilot has his hands on the same control element most of the time.
I've heard of one reasone for having a center stick is to allow for ambidextrous operation (operations with both hands, alternatively). But this seems to be counter-intuitive with HOTAS, especially since the throttle controls are still on the left side only.
Side sticks do have the advantage of less cockpit clutter. The stick is mounted off to the right and doesn't directly block critical instruments from the pilot's view or have its range of motion restricted by flight gear, kneeboards, etc.
As far as size and weight are concerned, both center mounted and side sticks are pretty much the same in a fly-by-wire aircraft - just a 4-way transducer LRU with a handgrip attached to it. In a/c with conventional control systems the center stick was a necessity as it acted as a lever arm allowing the pilot to overcome aerodynamic forces on the control surfaces with muscle power alone and one could force a maneuver using both hands. In the age of hydraulic flight controls and fly-by-wire, this is irrelevant.
As to ergonomics, it's fairly comfortable to fly a center stick as your wrists will naturally rest on your thighs when seated and your hands naturally float to that position. Side sticks are also comfortable but require an armrest to operate effectively, particularly when pulling Gs.
Besides the issues already covered, it appears to me that older fighters would prefer a center stick so the pilot can switch hands if he needs to see behind the cockpit in either direction.
The newer USA F22 & F35 use a helmet with virtual vision and supposedly the pilots don't need to twist their heads to see behind them - though some pilots have challenged the safety and effectiveness of this feature.
This is a side stick F16. Note the ability of the pilot to brace with his free hand looking to his right but unable to do the same looking left because his right hand must stay on the side stick. A center stick would have allowed a free hand in either direction.
And sure, I'll totally admit that there are many, many better games on Newgrounds (this was my first ever game from when I was first learning Flash after all), but seriously, is Stick Fighter really that bad to warrant all the super bad ratings now just to knock it off the Flash Portal?!?
Yes, I KNOW the enemy is hard. As was testing it, I kept making the enemy harder and harder until it beat me 50% of the time, but I forgot to consider that a first-time player wouldn't know everything that I knew as the programmer about how the AI would behave.
I recently added volume controls for the audio. I might add more special moves someday. I'd also like to make it so people can reconfigure the key controls for their own keyboards. It was tricky to find a functional layout for the two player controls because Windows has a glitch were certain keyboard combinations cancel each other out and I didn't want one player to be able to accidentally (or intentionally) mess up the other player by button mashing their own keys. The current default keyboard controls should be comfortable for almost all keyboards and they should work in all operating systems.
For 2005, this is a pretty impressive 2D flash fighter. Most flash content did at the time lacked a good amount of content and this game is not spared. For this to reach so high up in the "most played of all time" list at the time the guy wrote the description, I have to imagine people were enjoying it for it's multiplayer value. I can see people popping this up and playing with a friend every now and then. But in 2024 and playing alone it's nothing worth the time.
What gave it away? Was it the name? I bet it was the name, although it could've been the fact that I literally wrote in the game description: "Arcade-style fighting game like Street Fighter, only with Stick Figures."
I just kinda felt inspired to make this one since not only are both games so similar to the point where many youtubers call SpiderHeck Stick Fight with spiders, but I also find both games quite fun and chaotic to play. (Also this could unironically be a pretty epic fight.)
I feel like Stick Fight would probably win, don't they have a gun that shoots a black hole? I know it probably isn't comparable to a real one, but the Spiders, to my knowledge, don't have anything to counter it. The Sticks also just have more to work with in general.
^ Yeah now that you mention it, the Sticks seem to have a lot of things going for them. For starters their weapons arsenal is way bigger and varied then the Spiders, and some of the weapons are straight up one hits. there is no way that the spiders wouldn't get easily overwhelmed. The Spiders also straight up die after one hit from a sword, bullet, or explosive which the sticks are no stranger too. The Spiders do have more control then the Sticks however as they are able to use webs to stick to surfaces or swing across, as well as being able to stand on walls and ceilings. So its likely that they could avoid the Sticks for a time, y'know until the Sticks pull out a blink dagger or literally like 80% of there arsenal and one shot them Spiders. Overall the Sticks just have anything the Spiders have but better.

Most guns in Stick Fight: The Game can be categorized into 7 categories: Pistols, Rifles, Explosives, Snake, Lava, Melee and Other. There are also the 2 map-only guns (the Lightsaber and the Pumpkin Gun).
The pistol is one of the weakest guns in the game and has a poor accuracy. It has a medium fire rate (0.1) and an ammunition of 15. Similar to the revolver, the best way to use this gun is to shoot slowly to maintain accuracy. PistolDamage25 (body shots)Rate Of FireMedium (0.1)Ammunition15
The revolver is one of the more unsteady weapons in the game. While its fire rate depends on how fast you can click, hitting shots is more dependent when firing slowly. It takes 3 shots to kill (2 for headshot) and has 6 bullets.
The Desert Eagle (also known as the Deagle) is essentially a higher powered pistol with more recoil but more damage. It is larger than a normal pistol, takes 2 shots to kill (1 shot to the head) and has 15 rounds.
The Gold Pistol is a very rare weapon that looks like a pistol but glowing yellow. It can be shot as fast as your mouse can click, when the bullets hit a surface they create a small explosion that can knock or even destroy the pistol in the wielder's hand if one of these explosions lands close to them. It takes 3 shots to kill and has infinite bullets.
The cumshot is a highly advanced weapon created for one purpose: getting your sticky wet cream all over your enemies to do small damage and slow them. It takes twelve shots to kill but the slows stack.
The M-16 is a burst assault rifle, with a high rate of fire and a solid amount of ammunition, and has a small knockback. It takes 7 shots to kill (shots not bursts) (4 for headshot) and has 90 bullets (30 3 bullet bursts)
The appears to look like a basic rifle. It can be fired quickly almost like an AK-47. Precise aim, medium damage and high accuracy makes this a good weapon for eliminating players from afar. It takes 3 shots to kill (2 for headshot) and has 8 bullets.
Although it has a low fire rate and has a small magazine, the sniper has a laser sight mounted on it, so you can more easily see where you're aiming. It takes 2 shots to kill (1 for headshot) and has 5 bullets.
This is seen as a very scary gun due to it's obvious line of fire and high damage. It's high accuracy makes headshots more likely, so more often than not, players who encounter a sniper-wielding-foe will not survive - given that the foe is trained with the sniper.
The military shotgun is a relatively accurate gun and has a small kickback - this is made up with it's small damage, as well as spread shots. It has a spread of 5 pellets, and takes roughly 15 pellets to kill, and is equipped with 10 shots.
The Sawed Off is like a rocket gun in any other gun game - in the way of the rocket jump strategy, just in Stick Fight The Game style. The Sawed Off has a good amount of damage and a spread of 5 pellets, which go much wider than the military shotgun. This causes it to be a very inaccurate gun from afar, but can also kill a player up close. The kickback however will send you flying by a ballistic amount - many have been known to wipe out from shooting themselves off the map (this is also said about the snake shotgun). The Sawed Off has 10 shots and is often seen being used to propel one across the map or into the air - a smart decision if you're dealing with rising lava, breaking ice, a snake infestation or a lowering amount of platforms.
