I have an installation of Agriya's SF corwdfunding platform that runs solely on Paypal. I am thinking of integrating WePay instead. What are the requirements and what are the strings attached. The paltform was developed with CakePHP

Hello,

The best place to start is the API documentation. You can find the tutorial on conditional payments here: https://stage.wepay.com/developer/tutorial/conditional-payments and our general accept payments tutorial here: https://stage.wepay.com/developer/tutorial/checkout

For our legal and security requirements, you can look at these docs: https://stage.wepay.com/developer/security and https://stage.wepay.com/about/devterms

Since you are using PHP, I would strongly recommend using our PHP-SDK: https://github.com/wepay/PHP-SDK

Also, we be at the http://www.ecommercehackday.com/ event in NYC this Saturday. If you are in the area, feel free to stop by and ask us questions!

Let me know if you have any other questions or need help with anything!

Correct me if I am wrong but does paypal or wepay allow pre authorization?

Kickstarter does a pre auth using amazon and then funds if successful indiegogo lets you keep whatever you raise and doesn't have an escrow feature.

On an escrow type situation if you draft and hold but return upon not succeeding on the campaign does wepay take fees twice (once at draft hold and then return to original payer)?

Just click around the documentation links Andrew sent...

https://stage.wepay.com/developer/reference/preapproval

Also, refunds return all fees, which is rather unique of WePay, so you
can also just collect the money and refund it later if you need/want
to.

I have the agriya SF Platform script. app_controller.php and many other files are encrypted with IonCube. Unless you bought out the very expensive unencrypted version from them, you'll have a hard time plugging any PHP payment platform without unencrypting the IonCube or getting their permission. I talked to them about adding a payment provider (Amazon FPS)and they quoted me at $750 for the coding.

But talk to them, they may have changed since PayPal's rewrite of their adaptive payment crowdfunding rules. I'll bet they've already developed alternative payment plugins and are milking the coding fees. Why not it's their platform?

If you do decide to dump it, (which I did), Catarse is a great open source alternative. It's free, it's in Ruby and with some coding WePay pre-auth and account create will work excellently with it.

I am on the Catarse group as well. The only drawback is my lack of programming skills.

From the group I gather, its not fully packaged for a onetime install and everything works out of the box.
There is the need for a bunch of coding and customization in order to have it up and running especially on the admin side of things.

In any case, I havent tested it but will be eventually switching to Catarse.

Yes, you are correct. There is a learning curve and it takes some coding. You will be able to find developers in the group. There are also a couple of Catarse whitelabel providers as well that have production ready platforms ($)

I believe that PayPal is going to present some problems for crowdfunders looking to et delayed chained payment accounts approved and Agriya doesn't seem amenable to updating their product to include WePay without a fee.
