Taxonomic discussion: This species displays a wide morphological variability regarding (a) the number of chambers in the last whorl, from 4 to 6, (b) the degree of involution, (c) the presence of chamber bifurcation and, consequently, (d) the number of ampullae for each chamber. In particular, a wide range of intermediate morphotypes between the semiinvolute, pseudoplanispiral individuals and strongly involute, clearly trochospiral, extremely branched specimens is observed.
