When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions. RE: Auto page numbering in PM7.0.1 Goff (TechnicalUser)19 Dec 02 07:21I have done it using scripting. Not too hard....contact me if you need help with this!

Goff RE: Auto page numbering in PM7.0.1 theodorevoelkel (IS/IT--Management)(OP)19 Dec 02 12:49Excuse my appalling ignorance, but just what is using "script" in PM or any other program?

Ted Voelkel RE: Auto page numbering in PM7.0.1 viol8ion (TechnicalUser)19 Dec 02 12:52Ted,

A 'script' is a program of sorts, it is a set of commands that will allow you to automate certain parameters, in this case it is a small program that counts the total number of pages and then puts the total on the page with the page number so that the numbering will read: 'page 1 of 345' or whatever he wrote the script to do. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions. RE: Auto page numbering in PM7.0.1 theodorevoelkel (IS/IT--Management)(OP)20 Dec 02 12:25Thanks, that's very helpful. All the time on the web I'll get a dialog box that says "This page does not support certain scripts," etc., with "Line so-and-so" cited. I click the message off, sometimes it refuses to go quietly, but I wonder if most web users get these same "script not supported" messages. I mean, the web page seems to be intact and functioning, with nothing missing. I just have to keep swatting off these "script not supported" dialog boxes like pesky flies. Am I alone in being a honey-pot for these pests? Or do I need to add all kinds of programs/macros/scripts to my software?

Ted Voelkel RE: Auto page numbering in PM7.0.1 viol8ion (TechnicalUser)31 Dec 02 13:50Those errors are unrelated to any scripting in pagemaker. Those errors are indicating thatthe web designer is running a script (usually javascript) that your particular browser will not run properly. There is nothing you can do, shy of trying another browser to see if the script works better with it, or just ignoring those messages. Funnily enough on my FreeBSD desktop there is a libpagemaker installed as dependency for LibreOffice and Scribus (an open source DTP program). I remember it being installed and it raised a curious eyebrow for me. So it seems that both of those programs would be worth trying. YMMV. I'm guessing they would be able to extract text as a minimum.

8014:0099For the background information, here goes...WE are using an XP and Win98 system that are both not working. The version of pagemaker is 7.0.the PC is networked through the school. That may be the problem, I am having the school check that as well... Thank you again for your help.Chad Chavez

Hmm... we aren't completely contained locally though. the pagemaker files and the pictures we placed are all on a network drive. The pM program is local though. I will try suggesting that we run everything off of the hard disk though.I can't try to fix it until tomorrow. If it doesn't work, I will post back, and if it does, I cannot stress enough how much I appreciate the help. Thanks again,
Chad
