Lyrically, the song is about a cold and emotionless man.[12] In the first verse, Madonna enters in a medium range, 'You only see what your eyes want to see'. In the chorus, dance rhythm and ambient sounds are added.[12] In the second verse, more visceral lyrics are added, like 'Love is a bird, she needs to fly'. During the bridge, a broad, string lines provide instrumental commentary on the lyrics. The song ends with a string ostinato that simply fades away, without fully resolving to the tonic chord.[12] In an interview with The New York Times, Madonna commented that the lyrics to "Frozen" are built around "Retaliation, revenge, hate, regret, that's what I deal with in "Frozen". Everyone's going to say, 'That's a song about Carlos' [her ex-boyfriend], but it's not really; it's just about people in general".[17]

'You know what, I'm going to be freezing. I'm going to be miserable, I'll be complaining all day, I'll be sorry that I ever chose a cold place. So I said, 'Let's do it in the desert, it'll be warm,' and it would be sort of the opposite, because even though you think of deserts as being hot, they're still sort of frozen in terms of there's no vegetation and they're very desolate. I thought that that would still work as a visual, but then we got there and it was like 20 degrees below zero, it was bitterly cold, and I was barefoot. I was barefoot for the entire video, and then it started pouring rain and everyone got really sick, and it just actually turned out to be a really miserable experience.[71]

Sickick's rendition of "Frozen" is predominantly a trap song,[92] but it also has been described as EDM,[93] minimal,[10] and electro.[82] It consists of Madonna's chopped up vocals taken from the original version of the track, which has been called "now-iconic" by The Fader's Raphael Helfand.[94] The remix begins with a line "How can life be what you want it to be? You're frozen, when your heart's not open."[95] Billboard's Gil Kaufman called the rendition "slowed-down" and "gauzy".[96] Shaad D'Souza of The Fader and Sebas Alonso of Jenesaispop criticized Madonna for releasing too many renditions of the remix, the former's problem was over-promotion, while the latter's point was that they were short.[97][98]

On March 1, 2022, Madonna shared a picture of her and Nigerian singer Fireboy DML on her Instagram, announcing new remix.[101] Two days later, aforementioned remix has been released for digital download and streaming through Artist Partner Group and Warner Records.[102] On the same day, both artists teased a music video on Instagram calling each other "fire", whilst Fireboy DML wrote: "Love to the queen for having me on this classic."[87] This rendition starts with Madonna vocals, later featuring new lyrics performed by the featured artist,[103] which talk about heartbreak: "Don't make me waste my time / I've been waiting all my life".[78][82] He later croons "I thought you loved me / I thought you trusted me / I tried to take care of your heart / but it's frozen."[102] For the outro, the song returns to Madonna's vocals.[78]

In early June before starting recording, Orbit met Madonna at her house in New York, and she played him the music she had worked on with other producers up to May 1997, which he felt sounded "slick".[4][5] They visited the Hit Factory later that week, where Madonna invited the producer to work on Ray of Light.[6] Orbit then sent her a tape of musical snippets he was working on, which were usually eight or sixteen-bar phrases and stripped-down versions of tracks that would later be heard on the album.[5] Madonna listened to the samples, over and over again, until she was inspired to write lyrics. Once she had an idea about the lyrical direction of the song, she would take her ideas back to Orbit, and they would expand on the original music ideas.[5] As most of the instrumental demos pre-existed, Madonna worked on the lyrics and melodies while at home or while travelling.[4]

"Frozen", the ninth track and album's first single, is a mid-tempo electronic ballad which has a layered sound enhanced by synthesizers and strings.[29] The song additionally contains ambient qualities, a moderate dance rhythm during the chorus and techno-influenced beats towards the end. Madonna's vocals throughout the song lack vibrato, and have drawn comparisons to medieval music. Lyrically, the song is about a cold and emotionless man; nevertheless, subtexts have been noticed.[29] According to Jarman-Ivens, lyrics such as "You're frozen, when your heart's not open" reflected an artistic palette, "encompassing diverse musical, textual and visual styles in its lyrics."[30] "The Power of Good-Bye" is an emotional ballad which lyrically meditates on loss and longing. It was released as the album's fourth single. "To Have and Not to Hold" is about a distant lover and "Little Star" is about her daughter, Lourdes. Both are superficially vibrant but with underlying subtlety and restrained arrangements prevailing.[24] "Mer Girl", the album's final track, is a surreal meditation on mortality and the death of Madonna's mother, in which she sings, "And I smelled her burning flesh/Her rotting bones, her decay/I ran and I ran/I'm still running away."[22] "She stepped out of the vocal booth," Orbit recalled of its recording, "and everybody was rooted to the spot. It was just one of those moments. Really spooky."[31]

I've just released the second single off of my debut instrumental album, coming out this year. The song is called Anesthesia, and it's the 10th song in the tracklist. When making this song, there were three projects that i had in mind. Chromatica by our beloved Miss Gaga, "Frozen" by Madonna and "Jóga" by Björk.

The vocals, instrumentals, visuals / lighting, costumes, makeup, et cetera all combine to form one of the best music videos that I have seen in a while, a classic, and the song holds up well in a classic (timeless)-like way.

Joe Satriani is a 15-time Grammy nominee and one of the best-selling instrumental rock guitarists of all time, and he felt that Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" sounded too much like his own "If I Could Fly." Not too much is known about the specifics of this case's ending, as the two parties decided on an undisclosed settlement in 2009.

A drum break is a short instrumental (often percussive) section of a song, aimed at building anticipation. It can also function as a separation between parts of the song.

A mashup is a song created by superimposing the vocal track of one song over the instrumental track of another song. A remix is a rearrangement of a piece of music that often includes various changes like subtracting and adding elements, adjustment of dynamics, pitch, tempo, and equalization.
