Hey Wenches,

After some meetings last year, I scanned and uploaded the handouts that Wenches have been using for workshops. Just today I got a request to share one of those documents with someone who doesn't look to be a member of the Wenches google group.

So I'm wondering this: Are we happy to have this content out there for the wider internet? Or would you prefer that the documents kinda stick with us?

I'm not sure if anyone has a say on this - my take is the more people who want bike knowledge the better. But if there's some reason we want to keep our lessons to ourselves, then let me know and I'll not-share accordingly!

Hope everyone's enjoying the summer!
Kathy

Hi Kathy,

I'm not clear if you are referring to the handouts that we gave participants, or the lesson plans the instructors used.

As one of the original Wenches who put the lesson plans in electronic format, and formated them into the outline document that has the table of contents, I think I should give my two cents.  Having said that, I'm actually not sure about how I feel.  My concern is that someone may take the document and present it as their own, and even try to sell it.  Its a nice summary with a lot of info.  I know its not perfect, but its a good start, so I wouldn't want someone to benefit when wenches did the work.

If its just the handouts (not the lesson plans), the handouts I remember using had pictures from other sources, so I don't think we have the copywrite permission to spread those unless they are clearly sourced.  I wouldn't want to see us getting sued for posting them without permission. Since I haven't been involved for a couple of years, my information may be a bit dated with respect to the handouts as I think I heard new ones were going to be developed.

Hope that helps.

Gina

thanks Gina for giving your input.

i believe that the organization asking for them should state their intentions. i would share them in a heartbeat with members of the bike collective think tank, but if it was a different organization looking to do this for-profit or something, i'd want to know their values. as Gina said we've worked hard on those.

by the way i met with Adrian from CBN two days ago and he mentioned that CBN wanted to start running womens only workshops with Jerusha leading them. CBN has also said that they will always host wenches workshops if we want. i don't think they understand the difference between us (volunteer-run accessible cost workshops) and mechanic workshops being taught by a professional mechanic, woman or not. it's frustrating for me because we didn't do any wenches workshops this spring and i was really busy with school, it's too bad it didn't happen but honestly i don't know if i'll have plans this fall either. i'm glad that pirates has been hosting similar workshops and we shared our resources with them of course. i feel its different with CBN, i would want them to be more forward with their intentions of using them.

anyway i would say they are public domain but the resources must be respected and not taken credit for etc.

how's everyones summer going anyway?!
