Thanks for the nudge, Joe. Here's what we decided Thursday.

If you want to be part of ONI's March trial of the Sentinel space at 8371 North Interstate (and you should!):

1) Send Cornelius an email (p...@portlandsentinel.com) to tell him you're interested in either the Bronze, Silver or Gold access level. Bronze = three one-source blog posts about N/NE, 300-450 words. Silver = two mid-length stories about N/NE, 600-700 words. Gold = one feature story about N/NE, 800-1200 words. Plus a $10 fee to The Sentinel in all cases. Or if you've got more money than time, you can just pay $60 for bronze access, $80 for silver or $120 for gold. The advantage silver or gold access is that you can bump somebody out if the space fills up.
2) Arrange to get the cash (probably $10) to either Cornelius or me.
3) Come to Tuesday night's meeting (8 p.m. at Lucky Lab on SE Hawthorne, looks like) to pick up your key to the Sentinel building.

If you can't make it to Tuesday's meeting, coordinate with Cornelius for a key pickup time.

If the group decides at its March 22 meeting to take Cornelius up on this offer through Aug. 31, I think we should immediately launch an
outreach/publicity/recruitment drive to get as many participants as possible.

If you don't want to be part of the March trial but want to support the incubator space somehow, hold your fire. I bet we could get some press by offering free trials to laid-off journalists, once we have a space locked in. Save your cash and energy for those sponsorships, sez me.

NE is part of the Sentinel's beat? I thought it was just N Portland!

Inner NE is indeed part of the Sentinel's beat. In June 2008 we expanded our coverage area to include the following neighborhoods: Alberta Arts (really a mashup of Concordia, Sabin and Vernon), Woodlawn, Piedmont, Eliot and King. Essentially, we started covering the area bordered by Albina-Mississippi to the West, NE 33rd to the East, Fremont to the South and Marine Drive to the North.
(See map for big-picture view)

The original impetus for the expansion was to capture more advertising revenue, but we all know how that played out :(
(Thanks, Recession. Thanks a lot.)
Fortunately, it gives ONI contributors a larger area to work with.
