As Michael Andersen recently mentioned in
this post, the Oregon News Incubator is going mobile. Tomorrow is your next of many chances to join us as we co-work ourselves silly.
Are you a freelancer? Do you work from home? Just want to get out of that stuffy newsroom? Then come join us at Floyd's Coffee Shop in Old Town at 1st and Couch from 1 p.m. to (roughly) 5 p.m. tomorrow. Can't come tomorrow? we'll be there each and every Wednesday. Or, why not find us at Corbett's Coffee Plant on Fridays from 11 to 3 (or so)? Want to work in Southeast? Check with us about our super duper private (and free) location on for Mondays (or find out about our backup space on Division). More locations will be added, and you can check out our
calendar here (and though RSVPs aren't required, they help us guage participation, so let us know if you're thinking of joining).
That's right, we're bringing the newsroom to you (or at least to a variety of locations around Portland). Oregon News Incubator has evolved and as we think
about a future permanent space (have one to offer?) we plan to have regular
"work parties" at which freelance journalists or others not working in a
traditional newsroom can work alongside one another, sharing skills, resources, or just camaraderie. Though we're starting with coffee shops, we're planning on adding library meeting spaces, pubs, even backyards and living rooms (and we're welcome to new space suggestions as long as there's access to wi-fi and some power outlets, and perhaps a private corner for phone calls and the like). Though we love supporting local business, we want to be sure to keep costs down to, even if it's just the cost of a cup of coffee. We also may rotate locations each month, and hope to vary them geographically (around PDX that is) as well. Meanwhile, we continue developing a resource library (both physical and
virtual) for journalists, an equipment library, skill share, and
mentoring.
For more information you can see visit

(a full-time Web site will be completed soon).
If you can't come, feel free to share all this with your colleagues.
