chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark is really useful, but it will enable dark mode globally ie. for all other websites as well leaving no need for (the excellent) Dark Reader extension :-)

I woke up this morning with dark mode on google chrome activated. Every time I google something it is not the default white and blue. I've read other posts and nothing seems to be related to my issue. I have had the dark theme on my windows 10 laptop for literal years and Google Chrome has never once done this. I've updated the laptop, uninstalled and reinstalled chrome, and yet this issue still persists. I just want my google chrome to go back to normal.

I've tried searching for this, and the closest related question that I could find was from 3+ years ago and had to do with the incognito window being dark, while a normal chrome window was light back then.

In the image above you can see that the first and third icons are black, so they are hard to see when using dark-mode. The middle icon (the one I'm using for my extension)looks great on dark mode, but terrible on light mode. See below:

Also, I think it makes sense to use the version of your icons that work best on light-mode as your default, because I think the chrome extension page will pull from these for some of the icons they use (and that page has a white background). As an example, here's how my old icon looked (not enough contrast).

On Chrome-Android I have #darken-websites-checkbox-in-themes-setting flag enabled that conveniently allows to toggle between dark/light rendering for websites for which dark mode hides certain parts of UI.

Can I replicate this behavior on Chrome-Desktop? The only relevant flag I see available is #enable-force-dark , but it uniformly forces the website into the dark mode with no easily reachable toggle.

I recently installed Zorin OS and the dark mode has worked very well in almost everything the only exception so far has been google chrome in flatpak that although it has a large part worked in dark mode there are some sites, extensions and settings that have the light mode.

I was wondering if there was a way to get a dark version of the icon for the Chrome 1Password extension? The classic extension had an icon that blended well with Chrome's dark mode, but the latest version of the current extension does not seem to provide this despite having selected "Dark Mode".

We used to have the option to change 1Password's icon before. However, as blue is the color of 1Password, we decided to remove the option to switch icons in a later 1Password update. That said, if you find the dark icon works better for you. I will open a feature request to the development team for further consideration. Please stay up to date with the latest version of 1Password. That is the best way to get all the fixes and features.

Yes that would be great if you could open a feature request. It is very jarring in dark mode and defeats the purpose. It is entirely the reason why I have not yet bothered to update until I absolutely have to.

Except one thing: The title bar. It stays white. I feel it can be easily tweaked to turn dark by developers. This one little thing would make the whole experience of app shortcut perfect. Please take a look at below screenshot to understand my request better.

What I've tried:
- Using the Settings - Appearance dialogue. No option there, it looks like this:
- chrome://flags, setting the "Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents" to disabled. Wouldn't expect it to set the chromium UI back to default but at least prevent the sending of the dark mode call to websites.
It didn't do that, everything is still dark.

Since making the posting, I too had discovered that bug report, but using the option on startup doesn't solve the problem for me. It does.. nothing.
UI is still dark, and the dark command is still being sent to websites.

It was useful that previously chrome would display an incognito window in dark theme to easy distinguish from my regular light-themed windows but since 114 both are dark themed. Seems more sensible that incognito would be display in opposite theme, or at least have a setting for it.

Of course, you have to have 'Arc-Lighter' installed, or you can just use any other light theme you have. Same goes for 'google-chrome-stable' -- substitute 'chromium' or 'vivaldi-stable' or whatever the executable bin is for your web browser.

@Digital Shamans - There is a Wish List Idea post for Dark Mode that I would suggest you add your comments/vote to. If Miro is to support dark mode, they will likely consider all clients and not just Chrome.

I updated my MacBook to Mojave several months ago and my laptop has been on dark mode ever since. While all of my apps (Mail, Calendar, Messages, etc.) have been in dark mode, Google Chrome has always stayed lite. I recently "quit" Chrome, and as soon as I opened it again it was in dark mode. I find the appearance unappealing and hard to read and would like to change it back to the mode it was on originally, lite mode. I do not see any options through Chrome itself to change the theme to a "Lite Mode," so I hope there is a solution through my Mac preferences.

The Google Chrome dark mode can be activated either automatically or manually. On Windows or macOS, Chrome dark mode can be automatically executed by changing settings in the operating system. If you do not want your entire device to be in dark mode, just change the Chrome settings and nothing else. On Android and iOS devices, you can find the dark mode option by going into the settings.

One of the main advantages of the dark mode is that it is supposed to be easier on the eyes. This fact has not yet been scientifically proven, but according to reports, dark colors are less strenuous to look at than bright ones.

Another advantage of the dark mode is that it saves battery power. This is because fewer pixels drain the battery. On OLED displays, the pixels remain deactivated in dark areas, which saves power in the long run.

The system-wide dark mode was introduced with Android 10. For older variants of the operating system, you can download apps that activate dark mode. Since Android device providers mostly put their own user interface on top of the standard software, the explanations given above might not fit your smartphone one hundred percent.

Dark mode is not the same as incognito mode or night modeChrome dark mode should not be confused with other terms such as Chrome dark theme, incognito mode and night mode. In fact, these are understood to mean the following:

If you want to surf the Internet in private, your best option is to use the Chrome incognito mode. Incognito mode is a security feature that lets you browse the Internet without your history, cookies or other browsing data being stored. Read on to find out how to go incognito in Chrome and why you might want to do this.

But beyond style, the widespread roll-out of dark mode has triggered a slew of dubious claims about its proposed benefits, covering assertions that it helps concentration, eye strain and battery life. The question is, does the average computer user stand to gain anything from slipping into this shadowy mode? Here, we unpack some of the most prominent claims about dark mode, and whether they stack up.

In terms of readability, ensuring a higher contrast between text and background is more important than colour scheme, according to Cox. If the contrast is the same between normal and dark modes, she says we might not expect a difference in legibility, although our familiarity with black text on a white background might offer this display mode a slight edge.

This effect is even truer for those with astigmatism according to Singh, a condition where the eye is not spherical that affects close to 50 per cent of the population. However, eye conditions causing a sensitivity to light such as photophobia or keratoconus or those suffering loss of vision might benefit from the inky display mode.

One claim about dark mode that has a greater grounding in evidence is its battery saving attributes. However, this depends on the type of screen your phone has. For OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screens, dark mode does offer a battery conserving benefit. This is because in this screen type, each pixel lights up individually, meaning that when the pixel is black it's deactivated. For older LCD screens there is no advantage because these are backlit, meaning that even when displaying black, the pixels are lit up.

Until recently, most phones were made with LCD screens. The iPhone X was the first Apple phone to launch with an OLED screen. Other phones with OLED displays include the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the Huawei Mate P30. For these phones, dark mode can offer healthy battery saving capabilities. A report from iFixIt found there was a 63 per cent drop in power usage for an Android phone displaying a screenshot of Google Maps in night mode.

True dark modes reduces the levels of blue light emitting from our screens, but this can also be achieved to some extent by switching into night modes, that replace the harsher blue light with more melatonin-friendly orange hues, or by adjusting your colour temperature. However, limiting screen time entirely in the hour or two before bed is the best course of action.

What I mean is that whole page and tabs are in dark mode, but whenever I right click, menu opens in light mode, this wasnt the problem before I uninstalled qt5 tools since I dont needed them but I also reinstalled them but still problem not gone.

Note: If you select Auto, your computer will automatically adjust which mode you're using depending on your area's daylight hours. However, this feature is only available on MacOS Catalina.

Quick tip: Chrome browsers on a computer also give you many color palette options, including variations of dark themes. Click the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner, select Settings, and then select Appearance in the menu on the left. Click Theme and you'll see numerous options for darker and lighter browser colors. Make your choice and then click Add to Chrome.
