Due to an engine fire, Wright bodied DAF X931 CNO has been withdrawn and so tomorrow you will see E.C.W. bodied Leyland Olympian A685 KDV  operating service 8 Sandfields - Port Talbot and service 1 Port Talbot - Cwmavon.    It was new to Devon General and is on hire from Hoare, Chepstow.

Ridgway still have the ex UNO Wright bodied Dart but it's VOR at the moment and so that's why the Olympian is doing the Sunday services.

I had a ride on this Leyland Olympian this morning, a cracking machine with a Gardner lump, but she pulled well. This was a former First vehicle so how come it dodged the cutters torch?? and I see that on the tax disc it's down as a Bristol. Aberavon Beach sea front working from Sandfields to Port Talbot.

Richard, it would have been built by Bristol Commercial Vehicles Ltd - one of the last, in fact. I believe A686KDV was numerically the highest built by BCV.

Some people seem to get upset about Olympians being referred to as 'Bristols', but BCV was owned by Bus Manufacturers (Holdings) Ltd at the time, and BMH was jointly owned by Leyland and the NBC, with a 50:50 split. the factory in which the chassis was built was owned and operated by BCV, so it's correct to refer to the vehicle as a Bristol. Similarly for Fleetlines built after the transfer of production to Leyland, can correctly be refrred to as Leyland Fleetlines, even if they have Daimler badges.

I remember an early Olympian, operated by Bristol Omnibus, being fitted with a Bristol badge on the grill. Leyland took exception to this and told them to remove it but they were told to "sod off".
