Destination display is not DDA-compliant.  All caps should not be used on vehicles new on or after 1.1.2001.

Schedule 2, Reg. 8 (5) of the PSV Accessibility Regulations 2000::

" (5) Destination information shall not be written in capital letters only. "

Porthmadog or porthmadog would comply, but not PORTHMADOG.

Not that I agree with it.  Looks far better to have the final destination in all caps.

But the destination information includes 'via' points in lower case,
so it isn't written in capital letters. Not trying to start an
argument, Peter, but I know of another operator who has looked at the
regs carefully and takes this view.

Anyway, very nice photo - thanks.

That of course can easily be changed though with a quick tweak in the editing software. Some companies have horrid looking displays, in my opinion it doesn't take much effort to make them all clear and easy to read with adequate information displayed without it being a mess.

This is in contrast to what the USA seem to think, virtually every destination is entirely in capital letters over there! I do agree to an extent with not having all caps though, as the way we read means we use the shapes of the word to actually recognise what it says before even reading all the letters. Therefore, having title case destinations mean the word is recognised more quickly because of the distinguished capital letter followed by lower case.

I do understand the use of caps for the main destination on the top line though, as it makes it more distinguishable from the via points below. Another (and perhaps better) method however is to have the top line bolder than the via points, which is generally the better way in the UK's view.

Clever registration plate too!
