Hi there,

OK, this is really a Mac question but...

Does any of you use VPN with a MacBook? A firewall "specialist" came
into my office when I was away and told my boss that "Macs don't work
very well with VPN"... A bit of a broad statement, I think :-)

We are using a SonicWall firewall at the moment and it uses a
proprietary VPN client that doesn't work on Macs... So, I am pushing
for the purchase of a different firewall that would do hardware-based
VPN and would work well with Macs (and Windows). Anybody has a
suggestion?

Cheers

We use IPCop here which uses OpenVPN (and it's free!). Not sure if it works with a Mac, but IPCop runs Linux, so I suspect it would.

Hey,

A feature of OS X 10.4 (Tiger) is support for both PPTP and L2TP
VPN's, previous versions needed an external tool (digitunnel or
something like that). I use a PPTP VPN almost daily as I need to
access a MS domain for work, it works great.

Cheers,
Nicolai.

In the past (Panther) I've used the CISCO VPN client on my Mac and it just worked.

Thanks for the feedback.

I will investigate which protocol the SonicWall firewall uses and try
it to connect to it...

Cheers
