Would you mind replying with all of the local web APIs you can think of?

Might be handy for hack day.

Here're the ones I know of:

* xero
* powershop
* trademe
* ponoko

Powershop api access is manually activated by powershop, so if you want to hack on that I'd recommend signing up days before the hack day.

I'm not 100% certain I'll be there, but if someone was going to hack on our API (Ponoko) I'll def be there to answer any of your questions, help out etc...

Actually on that, what is the general opinion on data.gov.nz?

Any good? Or outdated lip service to open data?

For example, there's a thing in the paper about crime hotspots - is that data public?

Add MinuteDock to that, we have a beta API

My own site Mashblock.co.nz has a undocumented data api available (I can email anyone the details on request).

Plus NZPost has a few APIs for their services: http://www.nzpost.co.nz/products-services/iphone-apps-apis

Also I should probably mention AddressFinder's APIs: http://addressfinder.co.nz/docs

The data.govt.nz service is getting better.

There is a real push for open data in govt. In fact it is now mandated and although the wheels of government move slowly we are seeing a lot more data being opened. I was one of the founders of open.org.nz and there has been a lot of progress over the last 3 years.

We just don't have the granular data available to do the crime mashups. I suggest moving along and finding something more interesting ;-)

You might want to ask here for other links. That list includes those within Govt and outside. One dataset I just thought of is The Charities Commission which has an API.

If people are interested in Geospatial APIs, here's a few:

NZ Post Locator API

Contains a searchable list of NZ Post's assets - Mailboxes, Postshops, ATMs, etc. Requires a free license key. Note: Abletech built it.

MayMySites

Another site for storing geospatial assets. Requires a free account. Note: an Abletech site

AddressFinder

Searchable API of all NZ addresses, and their coordinates. Free accounts, but calling the API directly requires a paid account. Note: an Abletech site. If you're keen, we could give you a pro account for a while.

I am the person/developer behind data.govt.nz.

It has a built in Silverstripe API available as well, if some one needs a key. I can provide.
