When: Wednesday 31st October @ 5:30pm
Where: NZX, Level 2, NZX Centre, 11 Cable Street
StreetView: http://goo.gl/KOHFA

One in-depth presentation this month by Jeremy Olliver:

* Automate your deployments with Chef

We all know that the best form of documentation is the executable kind, you follow this already with your tests, now do the same with your server configuration. This month Jeremy takes a look at Chef - a popular open source server configuration management tool written in ruby - an overview of how it works, how to write your own cookbooks and recipes, with a focus on how to deploy a ruby web framework using it.

Drinks:
NZX is near a number of good pubs so we can wander out afterwards for drinks

Access:
The meeting time has been changed to 5:30pm as their outside doors auto-lock at 6pm. Take the lift to the 2nd floor and we'll initially gather in the meeting rooms there in the corridor with the lifts.

If you find the doors are locked when you get there then you'll need to text me on 021 677080 to be let in if someone isn't waiting there - no buzzer. We're still feeling out how to do this - so please take note of my cell phone number and ring/txt me if you get lost/stuck.

As I'm sure most of you that were there gathered - chef has a steeper learning curve than puppet does, and this was an overview of chef as a whole. If there's interest (let me know), I might look at doing a blog post of a quick start with chef.
I've also got slides up on my speakerdeck profile (above) of a talk I've done previously about puppet to contrast.

Happy to field any followup questions on the talk as well.
