I'm looking at getting up a rails site physically in Aussy and was
wondering if anyone had a VPS provider they recommended?

cheers,
nahum

Does it have to be Oz? The NZ vps market seems to be relatively
competitive

The main reason is that the the client wants it to appear when doing a
goole.com.au search for sites in Aussy. I'd assumed that the server
had to be within the aussy ip block??? Now I realise I'm assuming
which is bad, so am trying to find out how google does that - I've
searched for nz sites within nz that are not hosted here and they turn
up, so I'm wrong on that count.

anyone able to help with this, albeit slightly off-topic??

cheers,
nahum.

I'm pretty sure you can achieve showing up in country specific searches by either having an ip from that country, or telling google that your site is from that country via a setting in google webmaster tools.

This seems relevant http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/12/region-tags-in-google-search-results.html

awesome, that's exactly what I'm after. someone directly asks my
question in the comments and gets an answer saying that that's what
it's primarily for.

thanks,
nahum

Also have a .com.au domain name will help with Aussie searches as well
I think.
