We have belatedly been advised that Jim Thomas, founder of the National Visualisation Analytics Centre (NVAC) in the US will be in Wellington this week. Jim has agreed to give an informal seminar on his lab NVAC and his work in the area of visual analytics - both from an intelligence and security point of view, but also more widely on the underlying software engineering.

Jim is looking to establish some partnerships in New Zealand with his lab National Visualization Analytics Center (NVAC) which is part of one of the US's big national laboratories, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

Jim is the founder of this new area visual analytics and has edited a book and many articles about the subject. One of the reasons for this new area to be setup was to help counter terrorism through the mandate setup by the Department of Homeland Security in the US.

Jim is the keynote at Victoria University's workshop on Visual Analytics in Software Engineering (VASE), this week. There will be software engineering professors/lecturers at the workshop from most universities in New Zealand.
