Ok - well - hands up who's feeling guilty about not having finished this site (me me me).  Can we meet this week sometime to make a plan for finishing it off?

Yeah me too. I have the guilt.
I can catch Monday or Tuesday evening :) or sometime in the weekend

What do you guys think about Skyping, can you do group skypes? That might be a bit easier.

I like the idea of Skyping. I'm now in Manila, so joining you guys in
Skype would be all right for me.

Thanks.

How about Tuesday evening we meet in the real world somewhere that has free wireless and we skype Julius in (by text probably easiest in a cafe setting - or voice if in an office)?

5:15pm?  How did the Lido work out as a location for the UX bookclub?

Tuesday around 5:15pm works for me, too.

FYI, as my internets went away last night, I'm now sitting in the
Southern Cross using their free CafeNet wifi. Works fine so far. Likely
won't have access again until tomorrow afternoon, ideally before 4:30pm,
assuming TelstraClear is able to fix things.

If everyone ends up confirming for tomorrow around 5:15pm, and I've not
replied to the list by, say, 4:15pm, can someone please give me a
ring-a-ding at 9735477 to let me know that we are on? Thanks!

Re the site, not too much left to do regarding development work, though
there are some simple architectural and blog feature questions, answers
to which will help Brett and me finish on that front. These questions
were posted to Teambox.

Cheers,

Jason

I called the Lido and they don't have wireless there. Can anyone bring a laptop with mobile broadband on it? Otherwise we should find a different venue. I'm happy to go to Southern Cross (just need to find a quiet corner - which shouldn't be too hard on a Tuesday).

Hello,

Sorry for the delay and for sending comments by email. I don't know where to insert them in Teambox.

In the homepage, I thought the block's title or the areas were clickable. Yet, the links are the text lines under. It's a bit confusing and not really aesthetic. Could we put the link only on the title for each box or on the block area (with a negative effect on the rollover) and keep the text in grey? Or should I review the homepage design?

Concerning the sub menu on the left: All the links are in orange even the current page. This is a bit confusing for the visitor as we don't know which page is currently displayed. Here is the CSS to keep the link in orange and the current page title in dark grey:
.current_page_item a {
color: #333333;
}
In the design, there was a bigger padding on the left. Why this one has not been respected? Same question for the arrow which would appear on the left of the title if there is another level?

Another comment related to the menu. When a subpage is displayed, the title of the top page in the menu is no more highlighted. For instance, go to the page "Our people". This could be changed with this:
.current-page-ancestor a {
background:#EB8320 url(/wp-content/themes/emerge/images/bgmenuorange.png) repeat-x scroll left bottom;
color:#FFFFFF;
}

Finally, a drop menu is appearing under How we can help, but not under "About us", nor "Blowing our trumpet" .What is the logic behind this choice?

And a little change for the background:
#wrapper {
background:transparent url(images/footergradient.png) repeat-x scroll left bottom;
padding-bottom:20px;
}

body {
background:#D4D4D4 url(images/bg.jpg) repeat-x scroll center 228px;
}

html {
background-color:#C1C1C1;
}
You will find the new background image (for creating a tile background) in teambox

Cheers,
Julie

Hi Julie,

Started playing with it as per your instructions. Still some changes to
make.

Re: the blocks on the homepage, if the blocks' titles are links,
shouldn't they also be underlined, to be consistent with all other links
on the site? This, of course, changes the design. I can implement some
JavaScript so that the blocks themselves are the links, in which case,
what colours would you like for background, title, and text and images?

I will also address your other concerns, but have to run right at the
moment.

Thanks for uploading the new images.

Cheers,

Jason

Titles in the blocks are underlined links. If different behaviour (e.g.,
having entire block area linked) is desired, please provide more details
on the visual effects for the different states, i.e.,
hover/focus/active/visited.

Current page item now in dark grey. I also changed it so that it is not
even a link, and thus has no underline. This serves to further indicate,
and in a programmatic way, that it is the current page.

> In the design, there was a bigger padding on the left. Why this one has not

Padding on the left now bigger as indicated in
http://s3.amazonaws.com/teambox-assets/assets/38234/original/3columnsgrey.jpg

Regarding the arrow if there is another sub-level, as I understand it,
the left-hand subnav no longer reproduces the main site menu, but only
lists those pages within the section, and that all links to every page
in the section are always visible. Again, this can be changed if new
instructions are provided.

Fixed.

Leaving this one for someone else to answer, as it's not clear to me
either :)

New background implemented. I changed the new bg.png to a JPG, reducing
its filesize from 526Kb to 85Kb.

And I omitted the html{background-color:#C1C1C1;} rule as it has no
effect since the rule on the body element already sets a background
colour to the entire page.

Hey Jason,

Thanks a lot for all your work. All is perfect.

Just attached to his email a print screen to let you know why the below CSS line was necessary :)
html {
background-color:#C1C1C1;
}
... I know, my screen resolution is not usual! But I'm probably not alone to have a large screen.

Concerning the arrow, it's typical aesthetic to highlight the open down level menu. No matter if this is the first and second level or the second and the third level!

Hope too someone would reply to the question about the drop down menu / menu on the left :) Meanwhile, if there is no objection, we should implement a drop down menu everywhere or not at all. Indeed, during the design, I've done two different versions: one with the drop down menu and one with the menu on the left. Seems like nobody has chosen one or another version :)

Good one. Done.

The sub-nav tree is always expanded and the nested levels are indented
to visually indicate the levels, so my only concern with placing a down
arrow is that it might be expected to be functional, that is, clicking
it would collapse the menu, but we've not implemented
expandable/collapsable sub-nav tree menus.

That said, if you want the down arrow next those sub-nav list items with
nested sub-nav links, I can certainly do so :)

"About Us" now has a dropdown menu, and I've gone ahead and added one to
"Contact Us" as well (but can be removed if anyone has objections).
Blowing Our Trumpet doesn't, in my opinion, lend itself to a drop down,
as it doesn't have any similar sub-pages, unless you can suggest what
should appear in the dropdown for that menu item.

New Questions for Julie:

1. Can you please provide the green plant image for the "Become an
Emerge Supporter" block on the home page?

2. Can you please look at the contact form on the "Send us a Message"
page and provide any design instructions you might have? It's got a
little work left to do on it (mainly some margin/padding and background
colouring of the text inputs), but any suggestions you have will be
appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

Hey Group,

Not much happened tonight on skype, for various reasons. If you can make
it, we are scheduled to try again on Wednesday the 24th at 8pm. Would be
great if you could make it, at the least just to help us clear up any
loose ends as we near the finish.

Steph is working on her test script, and we should discuss a few points
about the hand-off to Emerge (e.g., documentation, tutorial, server
info, etc.), and whatever remains.

Looking forward to skyping with you next week.

Cheers,

Jason
