1 (one, unit, unity) is a number representing a single or the only entity. 1 is also a numerical digit and represents a single unit of counting or measurement. For example, a line segment of unit length is a line segment of length 1. In conventions of sign where zero is considered neither positive nor negative, 1 is the first and smallest positive integer. It is also sometimes considered the first of the infinite sequence of natural numbers, followed by 2, although by other definitions 1 is the second natural number, following 0.
The fundamental mathematical property of 1 is to be a multiplicative identity, meaning that any number multiplied by 1 equals the same number. The number 1 can be represented in decimal form by two recurring notations: 1.000..., where the digit 0 repeats infinitely after the decimal point, and 0.999..., which contains an infinite repetition of the digit 9 after the decimal point. The latter arises from the definition of decimal numbers as the limits of their summed components, such that "0.999..." and "1" represent exactly the same number.[18]
In category theory, 1 is the terminal object of a category if there is a unique morphism.[22] In number theory, 1 is the value of Legendre's constant, which was introduced in 1808 by Adrien-Marie Legendre in expressing the asymptotic behavior of the prime-counting function. Legendre's constant was originally conjectured to be approximately 1.08366, but was proven to equal exactly 1 in 1899.[citation needed]

In my limited experience (engineering and abstract algebra courses a couple of decades back) unity is not a synonym for 1, but a generalization of 1. It's the element of some set that leaves elements unchanged when a certain operation is applied - an identity element, and specifically the identity element for multiplication rather than addition, in contexts where both of those operations are defined. I've heard people say that some parameter or item is "unity" instead of "one" to emphasize its behavior as leaving things unchanged (or un-scaled), rather than being a particular quantity. Searching through some old algebra textbooks seems to confirm this usage.
This script generates 10,000 new coroutines whenever you press space. It counts how many of those coroutines actually got executed this frame and outputs the number. So I modeled a series of assets in Blender - each between 500 and 4k tris) and imported them into Unity, saving them as prefabs. The game instantiates them on awake, and there are the correct number of instances for each model. With everything in the scene the triangle count should sit around 170k. But Unity is reporting 1.2 million tris which is seeming to have a little bit of an impact on performance. I've seen Unity renders several instances of triangles for different render passes. But a factor of nearly 10 seems incredibly drastic...
