1 (one, unit, unity) is a number representing a single or the only entity. 1 is also a numerical digit and represents a single unit of counting or measurement. For example, a line segment of unit length is a line segment of length 1. In conventions of sign where zero is considered neither positive nor negative, 1 is the first and smallest positive integer. It is also sometimes considered the first of the infinite sequence of natural numbers, followed by 2, although by other definitions 1 is the second natural number, following 0.

The fundamental mathematical property of 1 is to be a multiplicative identity, meaning that any number multiplied by 1 equals the same number. Most if not all properties of 1 can be deduced from this. In advanced mathematics, a multiplicative identity is often denoted 1, even if it is not a number. 1 is by convention not considered a prime number; this was not universally accepted until the mid-20th century. Additionally, 1 is the smallest possible difference between two distinct natural numbers.

Linguistically, one is a cardinal number used for counting and expressing the number of items in a collection of things.[1] One is commonly used as a determiner for singular countable nouns, as in one day at a time.[2] One is also a pronoun used to refer to an unspecified person or to people in general as in one should take care of oneself.[3]

In algebraic structures such as multiplicative groups and monoids the identity element is often denoted 1, but e (from the German Einheit, "unity") is also traditional. However, 1 is especially common for the multiplicative identity of a ring, i.e., when an addition and 0 are also present. Moreover, if a ring has characteristic n not equal to 0, the element represented by 1 has the property that n1 = 1n = 0 (where this 0 denotes the additive identity of the ring). Important examples that involve this concept are finite fields.[citation needed] The term unit matrix is sometimes used to mean a matrix composed entirely of 1s.

Formalizations of the natural numbers have their own representations of 1. For example, in the original formulation of the Peano axioms, 1 serves as the starting point in the sequence of natural numbers.[13] Peano later revised his axioms to state 0 as the "first" natural number such that 1 is the successor of 0.[14] In the Von Neumann cardinal assignment of natural numbers, numbers are defined as the set containing all preceding numbers, with 1 represented as the singleton 0.[15] In lambda calculus and computability theory, natural numbers are represented by Church encoding as functions, where the Church numeral for 1 is represented by the function f \displaystyle f applied to an argument x \displaystyle x once (1 f x = f x \displaystyle fx=fx ).[16] 1 is the both the first and second number in the Fibonacci sequence (0 being the zeroth) and is the first number in many other mathematical sequences. As a pan-polygonal number, 1 is present in every polygonal number sequence as the first figurate number of every kind (e.g., triangular number, pentagonal number, centered hexagonal number).

The number 1 can be represented in decimal form by two recurring notations: 1.000..., where the digit 0 repeats infinitely after the decimal point, and 0.999..., which contains an infinite repetition of the digit 9 after the decimal point. The latter arises from the definition of decimal numbers as the limits of their summed components, such that "0.999..." and "1" represent exactly the same number.[18]

In category theory, 1 is the terminal object of a category if there is a unique morphism.[22] In number theory, 1 is the value of Legendre's constant, which was introduced in 1808 by Adrien-Marie Legendre in expressing the asymptotic behavior of the prime-counting function. Legendre's constant was originally conjectured to be approximately 1.08366, but was proven to equal exactly 1 in 1899.[citation needed]

In digital technology, data is represented by binary code, i.e., a base-2 numeral system with numbers represented by a sequence of 1s and 0s. Digitised data is represented in physical devices, such as computers, as pulses of electricity through switching devices such as transistors or logic gates where "1" represents the value for "on". As such, the numerical value of true is equal to 1 in many programming languages.[23][24]

The Neopythagorean philosopher Nicomachus of Gerasa affirmed that one is not a number, but the source of number. He also believed the number two is the embodiment of the origin of otherness. His number theory was recovered by Boethius in his Latin translation of Nicomachus's treatise Introduction to Arithmetic.[26]

Is there a difference between "unity" and 1 in applied mathematics? I know mathematicians have "roots of unity" and "partitions of unity",but at least those have become standardized. In applications,"unity" seems to be used randomly and maybe interchangeably with the number 1. Is there some subtle meaningthere that I'm missing?

In my limited experience (engineering and abstract algebra courses a couple of decades back) unity is not a synonym for 1, but a generalization of 1. It's the element of some set that leaves elements unchanged when a certain operation is applied - an identity element, and specifically the identity element for multiplication rather than addition, in contexts where both of those operations are defined. I've heard people say that some parameter or item is "unity" instead of "one" to emphasize its behavior as leaving things unchanged (or un-scaled), rather than being a particular quantity. Searching through some old algebra textbooks seems to confirm this usage.

This script generates 10,000 new coroutines whenever you press space. It counts how many of those coroutines actually got executed this frame and outputs the number. I drove this to a million coroutines without the counter ever turning out an uneven number. And then I quit because I only had 1.5 FPS anymore and it got annoyingly unresponsive.

I tried something like above but it will only show the number of lines with a \n newline character, however I also want to know about lines that are caused by wraparound when they reach the limit of the textbox. Is there a way to get the number of lines that the user sees?

Basically you can access commentaryText.textInfo.lineCount to get the number of lines. What I did is that on a button click it logs the number of lines for a TextMeshPro I created, so I was able to test it:

So I modeled a series of assets in Blender - each between 500 and 4k tris) and imported them into Unity, saving them as prefabs. The game instantiates them on awake, and there are the correct number of instances for each model. With everything in the scene the triangle count should sit around 170k. But Unity is reporting 1.2 million tris which is seeming to have a little bit of an impact on performance. I've seen Unity renders several instances of triangles for different render passes. But a factor of nearly 10 seems incredibly drastic...

If minInclusive is greater than maxInclusive, then the numbers are automatically swapped.

Important: Both the lower and upper bounds are inclusive. Any given float value between them, including both minInclusive and maxInclusive, will appear on average approximately once every ten million random samples.

There is an int overload of this function that operates slightly differently, especially regarding the range maximum. See its docs below.

See Random for details on the algorithm, and for examples of how UnityEngine.Random may be different from other random number generators.

Unity Hospital is a 471-bed community hospital in the town of Greece. After a four-year total renovation in 2014, Unity is now the only Monroe County hospital to feature all private patient rooms and free parking. Unity offers a broad range of specialty centers, including the Golisano Restorative Neurology & Rehabilitation Center, the Charles J. August Joint Replacement Center, and the August Family Birth Place. The hospital is also a New York State-designated Stroke Center.

Effective communication between patients, their authorized representatives, and their healthcare providers is vital to achieving access to quality care and ensuring good health outcomes.

To ensure that persons with Limited English Proficiency (LEP), those who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, and those who are blind or visually impaired have meaningful access and equal opportunity to healthcare services, programs and information, Rochester Regional Health provides comprehensive language interpreting services that are available within a reasonable period of time and at no cost to the individual or to their authorized representatives.

Authentication using only a phone number, while convenient, is less securethan the other available methods, because possession of a phone numbercan be easily transferred between users. Also, on devices with multiple userprofiles, any user that can receive SMS messages can sign in to an account usingthe device's phone number.

Firebase's phone number sign-in request quota is high enough that most appswon't be affected. However, if you need to sign in a very high volume of userswith phone authentication, you might need to upgrade your pricing plan. Seethe pricing page.

To use phone number authentication on iOS, your app must be able to receiveAPNs notifications from Firebase. When you sign in a user with their phonenumber for the first time on a device, Firebase Authentication sends a silent pushnotification to the device to verify that the phone number sign-in request comesfrom your app. (For this reason, phone number sign-in cannot be used on asimulator.)
