I have transcribed the will of Richard WELLER of Tewdly Kent,
husbandman, written 1688, proved 1692. Tudeley, as it is spelt now,
is about 2 miles from Tonbridge, so I was expecting to find that he
linked to the WELLER family of Tonbridge and Frant. So far I have
been unable to connect him. Can anyone help please?
He was presumably unmarried, as he does not mention wife or children.
He refers to cousins John, Stephen and Thomas WELLER, cousins Anne,
William Richard and Samuel MAPLESDEN, brother-in-law William MAPLESDEN
(Executor), and a Thomas WELLER of the Wells [presumably Tunbridge
WELLS] and his children. Richard's relationship to this Thomas is not
specified, and might or might not be the aforementioned cousin.
Note: Thomas WELLER, attorney of Tonbridge, was alive in 1688
(1632-1722) but his only brother was Henry.
Does anyone know of three brothers John, Stephen and Thomas WELLER who
were alive in 1688 (although these three cousins of Richard were not
necessarily brothers)? Or does anyone know of a marriage of a WELLER
and William MAPLESDEN? The Tudeley PRs do not appear to be on the
IGI.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Richard
