I have just joined this group in the hope that it will help me trace
my Weller ancestors further back. Joel Weller b 1806 in Glynde was my
G G G Grandfather. I would love to hear from anybody who thinks they
may share this ancestor or who have further information about his
parents or siblings.

Any WELLER with the given name of Mockett is likely to descend from
Thomas WELLER of Lewes, Sussex, 1757-1820 who married Ann MOCKETT
1755-1840. A tree provided by Beryl P Weller only shows one child,
Thomas born 1788, who married Frances HOTHER. She doesn't give date
of marriage, but lists 10 children born (or more probably her dates
are for baptisms) from 1812. No Joel, and their Henry was born 1818,
not 1812, the probable date of the one killed following the lightning
strike.
The MI at Glynde in the SFHG index has:
Henry Mockett WELLER, butcher of this parish, also his wife Mary, daur
of the late Stephen and Maria LUSTED, also Eliz Ellis BINGHAM, all
three died on 24th June 1863.
My guess is that Thomas born 1788 and wife Frances had at least one
other son, who in due course was father of Henry Mockett WELLER ca
1812-1863. Your Joel born ca 1806 Glynde may well be brother of this
Henry or a son of another child of Thomas and Frances.

His birth/baptism does not appear to be on the IGI.
