As fas as I know, according to this notice (+) Notification of Application Control application updates Planned for the 28th November 2023 - Application Control - Sophos Labs - Sophos Community, the office applications are out of scope being added to the control list.
Same issue here on at least two of our Macs. Had to try launching the Microsoft Updater before it started to appear. No application in the list to uncheck. Running latest 14.1.1 OSX and 10.5.1 Sophos.
Same issue here on a 2019 MacBook Pro running Sophos 10.5.1. Sophos is firing nonstop notifications about it since yesterday. I'd turn them off but notifications are forced by device policy, so I get to just see it popping up every 10 seconds throughout my work day.
Same here. Multiple macs. Mainly pop ups for Auto Update, which is NOT listed in Application Control, but some with Office Apps being clocked too. Interestingly, none of the pop ups are being shown in Sophos Central logs, only locally on the machines. We have had to disable Application Control for now which is far from ideal!
You can just use the plist from the Jamf Repository. They did the work for you, so it's clean. You'd just define what you and your organization like by going down the list and marking what works for you.
As @obi-k said, use a configuration profile to manage Microsoft Auto Update. The only "issue" I have had with MAU is if you have any Office apps that came from the AppStore, you will need to remove them and replace them with the Package install. MacApps from JAMF can also do this depending on the approach you want to take.
We had this issue too, along with Office apps that didn't update properly for some reason. What we did was a sledgehammer solution, where we scope a policy to a smart griup that contains devices with a too old version. The policy runs the Installomator script to install the office apps, with flags set to force update, ignore app store apps and kill any blocking processes. The only issue we had with this approach is that Teams sometimes doesn't terminate properly and Installomator fails. But in general, a very high success rate with this approach, although it's a bit intrusive.
Using Installomator is a good solution but we need to run that policy every fortnight or monthly manually. Here the business demands is as soon as updated are available it should be pushed automatically to macOS

I have just upgraded to MacOS Big Sur and I am now needing to upgrade my Office 365 personal. I have a subscription but the help keeps directing me to the app store. I want to be sure I am not opening up a second account through the app store, how do I upgrade my office applications?
If the version you currently installed will start and run, you can run Word and use the Help menu in Word to Check For Updates, but I suspect that you may have a version that won't start and run with Big Sur. In that case you will need to use the previously supplied instructions to install the current version.
The most recent minimum system requirements for Mac or any other operating system are available on this Microsoft support page. Click the link, scroll to "Microsoft 365 plans for business, education, and government,"and expand the grey bar below that title.
Using this option will change your password in Office365 and locally at UTMB, although there might be a slight delay before UTMB's network is synced. Note: you may need to go into application settings for apps installed directly on your Mac and update the password there.
The file management and sharing aspects of SharePoint will be available from a web browser. If you need to upload a file to the Collaboration folder and share it with someone, for example, you would just open a browser, sign into the SharePoint portal and follow the same process used on Windows.
It's important to note that Office documents created and/or stored in OneDrive or SharePoint will be treated like local documents by Office. For example, Word will ask where you want to create a new document, and if you choose OneDrive, Word will 'remember' that.
Mac users will have to access OneDrive through a web browser. Because Macs are not joined to the UTMB domain in the same way as Windows computers, the OneDrive application for MacOS will not connect and sync UTMB files or folders with SharePoint.
Like in Windows, you can open the hosted versions of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other O365 applications from a MacOS web browser. You'll have the same features and functionality on the Mac as you would from a Windows computer.
There is a Microsoft Teams application for MacOS which works very well. Other O365 applications like Delve and Stream are available from office.com, but they are not part of this project, not even Teams. Moving data from iSpace and into SharePoint/OneDrive is our sole focus.
OIT encourages all clients make sure the computer they are using for Williams related work, both OIT issued and personal, are running up to date operating systems. Click the appropriate section below for direction on how to check for updates on your device.
We do recommend having a recent backup before running your OS updates. OIT issued Windows computer should be set up to back up to a secure server in Jesup using the Atempo Live Navigator software. OIT issued macOS computers are set up with a time machine backup drive see: -guides/apps-software/macos-time-machine-backups/.
To check the version of macOS you computer is running click the Apple logo in the top left and choose 'About this Mac'. If You are not running the latest or at of the currently supported macOS versions please run your updates.

Usually, the super computers (by 1990's standards) sitting on our desks are just taken for granted. Then again, what our machines are really capable of doing for us isn't always advertised; especially, when it comes to what makes computing awesome. Automation!
Simply put, automation is the task of getting a machine to perform redundant work over and over again. Best of all, once the machine is setup for a job, it will do it consistently, forever, without complaining even once.
A common task that workers in offices, research labs and machine shops can find themselves performing is redundant data entry. This is when you copy a set of values from a table or spreadsheet to fill-out a data entry form.
If you are interested in throwing your hat into the ring, I've produced a video tutorial that describes step by step how you can automate redundant data entry within macOS. What better way to showcase that you deserve a raise come performance appraisal time!
Procyon is a suite of benchmark tests for professional users in industry, enterprise, government, retail and reviewer roles. Today, May 2, 2023, the suite expands its capabilities. With this update, we are adding macOS support to our photo editing benchmark and office productivity benchmark.
Benchmarking helps IT teams match system performance to the requirements of workers in professional roles. A brand specialist may perform tasks that require heavy workloads on creative projects using Adobe applications, while a finance manager may need Microsoft Office applications to execute complex accounting using Excel spreadsheets. Depending on the specifications, devices will be optimized for specific ways of usage.
The new, multi-platform ability from Procyon allows users to compare benchmark scores from both Windows PCs and Apple Mac computers. This new ability can provide valuable data to help IT procurement teams make the right decisions for their organization by balancing performance and value for money and matching the right device to the employee to maximize their productivity.
Many manufacturers now sell dedicated creator PCs with high-end specifications for animators, designers, photographers, videographers, musicians and other digital content creators. Adding Apple Mac computer benchmarking will create multi-platform comparison performance data that can benefit PC manufacturers in their design phases. It will also enable retailers who sell PCs and Apple Mac computers to showcase different systems specifications, using real-world data points to back up their claims.
The Procyon Office Productivity Benchmark uses Microsoft Office applications to simulate everyday work use. The benchmark workloads feature relevant, real-world tasks using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
