Hi there,

I tried this question. But for me both removing Fe, Si, Al, K and removing Fe, Mg, Rl come up with 71.028% classification accuracy.

Is that right? If yes, what makes the first one the correct answer?

If not correct, can someone please tell me where I've done wrong to get these % and how to correct?

Thanks,
Jennifer

Hello, Jennifer!

First option, "removing Fe, Si, Al, K" is correct as it gives 73.83% in classification accuracy.

Please, make sure you are using
  • WEKA stable version 3.6.10;
  • all and only the attributes that remain after you remove Fe,Si, Al and K;
  • the algorithm J48;
  • 10-fold cross-validation (default option);
  • default Random Seed, which is 1;
  • all test and algorithm specific options as the default value as provided by WEKA (you may want to close and open the WEKA Explorer perspective, as this will reset all inherent options to their default value).
Please, let us know what turns out.

Cheers,

Following up on Thales' reply to Jennifer, I have the question:

When asked to "reset all the options to their defaults for function XYZ", is the only way to do this to "close and open the WEKA Explorer perspective, as this will reset all inherent options to their default value" ?  I don't see a "use defaults" checkbox in the J48 dialog box, for example.

Very thankful for your resources and your time :)

OMG, this is from two years ago.
Good to see this is still helpful. =)

Karen,
There is no 'use default' button, but you can manually set the parameters to their default value if you know what they are.
Try reselecting the algorithm, or selecting any other and then selecting J48 again without exiting the explorer to find out if it resets the algorithm's parametrization as well.
Maybe there is a non-documented easter egg to reset them, but I'm not aware of it.
