to weizzar
Hi Everyone,
A friend of mine, Bill Bushell (anthropology scholar at Columbia
University), is looking to put together a conference at New York
City's Tibet House to discuss Tibetan and Burmese yogic and meditative
traditions. He is looking for someone to talk about the "weizzar
lan". The person originally scheduled to talk can no longer do it.
Below is a summary of the conference. Would any of you be interested
in doing this? If so, please let me know, preferably by tomorrow
evening.
Best,
Tom
"We're trying to get an initiative going to adapt meditative and yogic
techniques to help people throughout the world in the various forms of
disaster etc, natural, manmade, and combinations thereof, an
initiative that will probably eventually involve the Dalai Lama. This
initiative would target stress, PTSD, etc, as well as physical/
physiological problems, including diseases. The "we" is a group of
scholars, scientists, and practitioners involved in a working group
which is affiliated with Tibet House, along with a number of academic
and cultural institutions. We're making arrangements to kick off the
initiative with a miniconference at Tibet House this fall. Along with
Tibetan and Indian meditation and yoga, we -- and more especially I --
am very interested in Burmese meditation, yoga, etc. We would like to
have someone representing the Burmese tradition for this, at the
upcoming miniconference and beyond. Someone that is somewhat
knowledgeable of Burmese meditative/yogic practices, maybe a teacher/
practitioner, and for this conference at least, somewhat in the NYC
area."
