Dear Margie,

I am sorry I was not able to send you any email as I had been very busy the last few months.

Ko Htut told me that you two were able to talk on the phone for some time.

Thank you for agreeing to be part of the Buddha Dhamma Study Group.

I am now doing research to write a book about how Buddhism came to the USA.

The books that I have seen here in America put a great deal of emphasis on Mahayana Buddhism and Zen Buddhism and not enough focus is given to the spread of Theravada Buddhism in the USA and in the world at large. That is what I want to correct.

Please do your independent reseach on  the area of Zen Buddhism and we will exchange notes online.

I am now reading all books that I can get hold of on how Buddhism came to the USA. Some of them are pretty good but some of them are quite superficial and also contain some wrong facts and interpretations.

One book that I am readying now is called "Buddha or Bust" written by a guy called Garfinkle. He is a jew but now doing Buddhist meditation also.

My aim and goal is not to convert others to Buddhism but to give them the technique of doing vipassana meditation which can be done without any religious baggage.

In the end, what counts in life is how pure we can keep our thoughts and actions and to that extent we will live peaceful lives.

I am copying this message to Ko Htut also so that he is  in the loop.

Warm regards,

Moe
