Hi Everyone,

I finished grading the first exercise (of this semester). Two comments:

1. A public-key encryption algorithm MUST be probabilistic, that is, for every message and key there are MANY ciphertexts. Therefore it is misleading to say that c=E_e(m) is "the" encryption of m. "An" encryption of m is more appropriate.
(the above holds also for multiple-message secure private-key encryption)

2. The encryption algorithm gets two inputs - an encryption key and a message. When applying an encryption algorithm you have to clarify which key is being used (i.e. write E_e(x) or E(e,x) but not just E(x)).

Ron

p.s. Some of you didn't pick up exercises from last semester. You can pick these up either in class on Thursday or any other time from my room.
