Hey All,

My inkbird controller is showing up today for my 7 cu ft freezer that I am converting for my kegs. My question is, what worked for you, what would you do differently, any advice, etc if you were making a new one?
I was originally planning on putting on a tower, but am now thinking I will collar it and have the taps in the collar.

Thanks!
Chris

First thought (put this tower on top of the chest freezer):

I have three kegs, will likely eventually get a fourth. The T-towers are pretty pricey though. Could just do a three, but that leaves no room for expansion. Plus, pain in the ass for getting into cooler and working in it. Plus likely harder build.

Second (and now current first) thought:

Timing!

Hey my cooling unit went out on my kegerator. I am rebuiliding a new one.

I would like to sell my towers, they are pretty expensive new so would be happy to give you a smoking deal: I have two (1) tap towers and one (3) tap tower.

Also if anyone would like to take my old kegerator off my hands (it has a sweet Iowa Hawkeyes logo on it) free to a good home.

Mark, $20 to recycle at Loveland, but they’ll probably hit you up for another $10 because of the Hawkeye logo.  :P

I went with a 2x4 collar, I would probably go to at least a 6 next time if not more to be able to put a keg on the cooler box.   Also had issues with the hinge screw locations.

I’ve had some moisture problems in the past.  I would suggest a small case fan to keep the air circulating.

I put my taps to one side.  When lifting over the top or cleaning, I’ve opened a tap before.

I used silicone to attach my drip tray mounting brackets on the front.

If you are going to put it on carpet, put some kind of riser on it.  I had one rust on the bottom because there wasn’t adequate air flow.

Enjoy!

Terry

I used 2x8 for my collar. Works great. If I rebuild I would group my taps in one location. My current spread can make it hard to get some kegs in and out.
The other thing I would do is this:

I also have a 2x8 collar. I found a fan was essential to keep the temp fairly consistent. I also recently found that you really need to ensure your probe goes to the lowest part of the keezer. If its sitting on the hump or not going low enough, you risk freezing kegs.

I also use a fan. In addition I use a half gallon jug of water that I attach my temp probe to. I put a cut up old glove for insulation so that it is measuring the jug temp. Much stabler temps.

I have a small fan and use a 2×10 collar no issues with temperature. I can put a keg on the hump with plenty of room.
