Jordon is a monarchy, yet progressive, Iran is democratic, yet oppressive, how is that so?

I am not exactly for democracy after I realized if you compare and
contrast certain countries, like Jordon and Iran, you will see
benevolent autocrats are much better than corrupt and oppressive
democrats.

Just an opinion from the Brave Republican, but soon leaving the party
to find my own footing...
