The representatives of the ID faction really screwed themselves, as
school board members were caught in outright lies about their
intentions in pushing ID. It was pointed out that the books the school
board ordered were provided by a church group, and that they were
literally re-written books on creation science, with words like
"Creation science" replaced with "Intelligent Design". Comparisons
between the church's old creation science books and the current
"intelligent design" books being promoted by the Dover school board
revealed this, and the school board was caught in a bold faced lie when
they were asked earlier if there was a religious agenda behind the
books and the promotion of ID.
Worst of all was the ridiculous and incoherent science promoted by the
ID proponents. Not even Micheal Behe, who appeared as a witness for the
defense, could give a coherent version of ID that was consistant with
science. IN fact, the judge noted that Behe and the other ID people
pretty much redefined science so loosely, that it bore no resemblence
to what modern science does, but that the loose definition used by ID
people meant that we would have to let astrology be taught as a
science, as well.
All in all, the religious people made idiots of themselves again, and
kids won't be fed nonsense instead of science. That's a victory for all
of us.
