1 day agoI appreciate the hard work that the USGS team does to gather and analyze data about what is happening, and how they provide it to the public through their webcams. They were woken up by this eruption in the middle of the night Hawaii time to get out and find out what was going on. I thank Ken Hon for giving this live information at 6 AM his time.1Reply

2 days ago (edited)In 1959, my parents, my family went to Kilauea military camp on the big island. We walked across Halemaumau crater, and received a little certificate stating we did so. Before the eruption, there were acres of Vanda orchid plants. My dad was a Marine Corps pilot, stationed out of Kaneohe on Oahu. When he would go to the big island, he would bring back hundreds of orchid flowers. 4 for 25 cents. He would bring them home and I would make leis.To think of how far science has progressed that you are able to provide live streaming pictures and information as it happens. I don’t know if anybody ever thought that would’ve been possible back then. It’s amazing thank you.Show less4Reply1 reply
