Dar, the Beastmaster, learns of a previously unknown half-brother, Arklon, who plans to conquer the land with the help of a sorceress named Lyranna. Both escape to present day Los Angeles through a dimensional portal. Dar and his animal companions, Ruh, Kodo, Podo and Sharak, must follow them through the portal and stop them from obtaining a neutron bomb. During his visit, Dar meets a rich girl named Jackie Trent, and they become friends.

Lyranna disguises herself in a military officer's uniform in a way to obtain the detonator from a military encampment. When Arklon learns he can return through the portal without the help of Lyranna, he determines that she is of no use to him. He also discovers that Lyranna intended to leave him stranded in LA. He therefore chokes her and then casts her aside. Lyranna therefore briefly joins forces with Dar and Jackie Trent (Kari Wuhrer). However, she only does this to get revenge on Arklon, and then she plans to continue her quest for world domination.

Overview: An evil barbarian warlord with a laser gun that also opens a magic portal to 1980s Los Angeles because why not decides he wants to steal a nuclear bomb, which will definitely intimidate his unwashed illiterate barbarian subjects more than the M1 battle tank he walks directly past to get to it. Our only hope is the Beastmaster, a slab-browed meat mountain who has the amazing power to make tigers (and movie audiences) slightly hungry and then bored. Meanwhile, LAPD's finest, after calling in armed backup to help pull over a speeding 19 year old girl, survive a 90 MPH car crash through a brick wall into another dimension and are pretty sure it's just a really sweet prank Desk Sgt. Juarez set up for a laugh.

The Case Against: We hate to throw around the word "unrealistic" in a movie that involves barbarians with laser guns traveling through time, but everyone in this movie seems to have amazing psychic powers that tell them exactly where to go to advance the plot at any given moment.

Looks a hell of a lot cheaper than the first Beastmaster, which wasn't exactly an exorbitant production either, but still a fun ride. This takes the same budget-cutting approach as the Dolph Lundgren-starring Masters of the Universe by sending the hero though a portal to modern times. Hi-jinks ensue as the Beastmaster and Kari Wuhrer fight to stop Wings Hauser and Sarah Douglas from getting their hands on a "neutron detonator".

In the meantime, Arklon has captured Lyranna, a witch with magical powers. In order to save herself, she takes Arklon through the Portal of Time, showing him a modern Los Angeles where a neutron detonator exists. The detonator could destroy the world, and if Arklon could possess it, he could rule the world. Arklon is determined to steal the neutron detonator, and Dar must stop him. Dar and his animal companions also pass through the Portal of Time and with the help of Jackie Trent, a hip, wise-cracking, wealthy, modern adventuress, they race to save the world from Dar's evil brother, Arklon.

There's animal action throughout this adventure-fantasy. Dar's ferrets travel with him in a sack. At times the sack is tossed or involved in rough action. Whenever that happens, scenes were shot in cuts with no ferrets in the sack or by using fake ferrets. Whenever the ferrets bite a person, they are just nibbling at food that has been strategically placed.

Felix's life on Earth had become a series of dead-end jobs, ruined relationships, and rotating apartments smaller than most postage stamps. By all accounts, even his own, he was a coward. Too afraid to move forward, to take risks. Yet when given the chance to choose between risking his life or walking away from a deadly encounter, he didn't hesitate. Moments before his untimely demise, Felix was snatched from earth and thrust into a magical world known only as "The Continent". Empowered by the "System", he learns that he can strengthen himself through combat and dedication.

As we neared the end of the adventure, and the players had gotten to level 5, everybody was interested in continuing. Luckily I had planted some seeds for a bigger plot, and the game evolved into a homebrew campaign that brought the players through Neverwinter, Waterdeep and lastly to Icewind Dale. For the adventures in Waterdeep I took some inspiration from Dungeon of the Mad Mage, and for the time in Icewind Dale I used Rime of the Frost Maiden as a guide for how Ten towns could work. We ended at 16th level, where the team had to fight two demi-gods from the Abyss, that a sly and manipulative diplomat from Neverwinter had released through an interplanar portal, in an attempt to appease Cyric, the god of lies, who had usurped the throne of Orcus, and thereby won control of the undead armies of the Abyss.
