Recommendation

A local golf course has asked for advice in purchasing a weather station.

As a minimum will need standard instruments plus rain. An option for other sensors i.e. soil moisture, sun etc. Would be good. Mid range cost.

A wired sensor would probably be better but wireless with long battery life would be ok.

Also important would be ability to remote access info and/or ease of publishing to an established web site.

Sounds like a cabled Davis Vantage Pro, although "mid-range cost" is highly variable. A new cabled Vantage Pro Plus (24-hr fan aspirated radiation shield, UV/solar sensors, etc.) lists for under $1k I believe, and since it's powered by the cable there's no batteries to worry about. Haven't seen one discussed in a while, since everyone wants the wireless stuff...
