I've been using various incarnations of Fine Offset for 14 years, Maplin branded initially. They've worked but fil after a short time and syncing after changing batteries is always a game. Hence I'm thinking of biting the bullet and going for a Davis Wireless Vantage Vue Weather Station with WeatherLink Console 6242UK.

Things may have changed but I remember when I looked a few years back that I would need a data logger as well and it started to get very expensive.

Does anyone know that if I have the Davis Wireless Vantage Vue Weather Station with WeatherLink Console 6242UK do I need anything else in order to hook up to weewx?

Cheers

the davis marketing speak about why the 6224 is great is

WeatherLink Console

The WeatherLink Console revolutionizes the way you access, analyze,
and understand your hyperlocal weather data reported by your Vantage
Pro2™orVantage Vue® sensor suite, or your custom network of multiple
Davis sensors. One intuitive device lets you receive and display
data from your local network and connect to Wi-Fi to push your data
to the WeatherLink Cloud.

and as I understand it, it sends data to the cloud and you can't get at
it locally. Davis used to be aa great company but it seems they have
strayed from the path of truth and light.

I am not 100% clear on vue, but you can probably receive the ISS (or
whatever the "outside half of the Vue" is called0 transmissions via

rtldavis and SDR stick

There is also a way to get data back from Davis, if you're comfortable
with
sending them daa
having that fail when the internet is down
maybe paying them for the privilege of access to your own data

Indeed I believe that sadly Davis Instruments does not operate the way they once did. My opinion on this is that a lot has changed since being sold to a private equity firm. This almost always seems to signal negative changes for customers.
I could not remember the details of the sale so I searched.
Sorry Greg AI warning :)

Davis Instruments Corporation (the prominent weather station manufacturer based in Hayward, CA) was officially acquired on July 31, 2019. The company was purchased by Union Park Capital, a Boston-based private equity firm, and integrated into its Advanced Environmental Monitoring (AEM) platform. This sale coincided with the company's 50th anniversary and the retirement of its long-time owners, Jim Acquistapace and Bob Selig, who had previously purchased the business from its founder back in 1969.

sadly Davis Instruments does not operate the way they once did

I received an email the other day from WOW in the UK, they're shutting down the current system by the end of the year like the guy from WOW-BE said they were going to last year and I received a link to a digital PDF certificate that I guess will make someone somewhere feel warm and fuzzy about all the data they uploaded over the years.

They are then going to be running a new system that only pulls data from Davis' and Nemo's cloud services from then on. So those that get xmas presents and throw everything up willy nilly will end up producing data of questionable quality which will be going to the cloud and then on to WOW.

This also means WOW no longer accepts data from the more experienced that sited everything much better and that go out of their way to bypass cloud services.
